How to Read This Guide [HOWTO]
==============================================================================

This guide is divided into four main sections: Info, from [HOWTO] to [TYPGD],
the Johto Guide [JOHTO], the Kanto Guide [KANTO] and the Indeces Section
[INDEX].

This guide has three main types of ASCII tables. First off, each section
begins with a header, like the one below. It has the name of the section (1)
and a search code (2). This code can also be found in the Table of Contents
for easier searching. To search, press CTRL+F and paste the code inside.

===============================
(1) Example 1      (2) [CODE1]
===============================

The next is the Route Information, again an example below. This table, taken
from New Bark Town, has 4 sub-sections. First is the Method column (1). It
tells you the methods to encounter wild Poke'mon in the area. Second is the
Poke'mon List (2). The list is divided into the seperate methods of encounter.
Next is the Item List. The list tells you which items, appart from shops are
available. Exactly where to find them is found in the walkthrough. Lastly is
the More Information Box (4). Generally, this section refers you to other
parts of this FAQ for more information on items. For example, the Master Ball
cannot be obtained at the beginning of the game, but rather in the section
with the given code.

    (1)         (2)            (3)
+----------+------------++--------------+
| Method   | Poke'mon   || Items        |
+----------+------------++--------------+
|Headbutt  | Exeggcute  || *Potion      |
|          | Hoothoot   || *Everstone   |
|          | Spinarak   || **Master Ball|
|          | Pineco     ||              |
+==========+============++              |
| Surfing  | Tentacool  ||              |
|          | Tentacruel ||              |
+==========+============++              |
| Fishing  | Magikarp   ||              |
|          | Tentacool  ||              |
|          | Chinchou   ||              |
|          | Shellder   ||              |
+----------+------------++--------------+------+
| *Check section [00310] for more information. |   (4)
| **Check section [00450] for more info. |
+----------------------------------------------+

The third type of table is the Trainer Information. Inside, it gives you as
much information you need to beat the trainer. Each Trainer has three sub-
sections. First is the Trainer Name (1). Next is the Trainer Poke'mon area.
On the left side is the Poke'mon names (2) and on the right is their
respective levels. Lastly is the Prize bar (3). This tells you how much Poke
Dollars the trainer gives you upon defeat.

+-----------------------+
| !Trainer Name! (1)    |
+=======================+
| Poke'mon 1      Lv.2  | (2)
| Poke'mon 2      Lv.2  |
+-------------+---------+
| Prize: 0001 | (3)
+-------------+

Lastly is the Store Inventory table. The first two columns are usually the
store on the top and the next two is the store below. The first column is
the name of the item (1) and the second is the price (2).

+----------+
| PokeMart |
+----------+----+-------++---------------+-------+
| Item          | Price || Item          | Price |
+===============+=======++===============+=======+
| Item 1        | 50    || Item 1        | 200   |
| Item 2        | 300   || Item 2        | 300   |
+---------------+-------++---------------+-------+

Now that you know how to read the FAQ, continue on.

Natures      [NATUR]
==============================================================================

Each Poke'mon ig given a Nature. These Natures, if used properly can give you
a difinative edge in battle. If used incorrectly, on the other hand, it could
cost you a battle.

"What do natures do?" you may ask. Natures give a 10% increase in one stat,
the same decrease in another stat. This is expecially important when choosing
between making a Poke'mon that specializes in Special attacks or Physical
Attacks.

Below is a chart of the various natures and which stats the alter.

+---------+---------------+---------------+
| Natures | Stat Increase | Stat Decrease |

So for example, if I wanted a Poke'mon that uses only Special Attacks, not
Physical Attacks, I would choose the Modest Nature. If, the opposite were
true, I would choose the Adamant Nature.

In truth, you cannot simply choose a Nature. Rather, you must breed or sift
for one.

The Sifting Method can be the easiest. You simply catch multiples of the
desired Poke'mon. Sift through them in the PC, looking for the desired Nature.

The second method is the Everstone Method. This method is done by attaching an
Everstone to the female or the Ditto. When the egg is hatched, the baby has a
50% chance that is has the same Nature as the female.

==============================================================================
Experience      [EXPCE]
==============================================================================

Experience is a wonderful thing. Experience is what increases your level and
makes you more powerful. Whenever you defeat a Poke'mon, you gain experience,
but the formula used to calculate EXP can get tricky.

This is the formula for Experience:
EXP=(( Base x Level) Trainer x Wild)/7

Here is the explanation of the variables.
Base: Each Poke'mon gives a different amount of Base Experience
Level: The Level of the defeated Poke'mon
Trainer: If the Poke'mon is originally yours, the value is 1.
         If the Poke'mon is traded to you, the value is 1.5.
Wild: If the Poke'mon was defeated during a Wild Encounter, the value is 1.
      If the Poke'mon was a Trainer's, the value is 1.5.

Also, every trainer should know that EXP can be shared. If I send two Poke'mon
against a wild one, the gained experience would be evenly split between them.
A very useful item takes advantage of this, called the Exp. Share. The Exp.
Share essentailly does this without the holding Poke'mon needing to
participate in battle. We will make use of this in the [BATLE] section.

==============================================================================
Stats - Evs and EPs [EVEPS]
==============================================================================

To start off, EV stands for Effort Values, while EP stands for Effort Points.
Effort Values are hidden stat values that are obtained by training.

To start off my explanation, each Poke'mon gives a specific amount of EVs upon
defeat. For example, a Zubat when defeated gives 1 EV into Speed. Also note
that 4 EVs equal one EP, an extra point in the specific stat. Again an
example, if I defeated 4 Zubat and level, my Poke'mon would gain an extra
point in Speed.

As always, EVs and EPs have limits. A Poke'mon can gain only 510 EVs (and thus
126 EPs). Also, each stat can only gain 255 EPs in any one stat. This means
that you can only max two stats.

There are two ways to make EV Training less daunting. One is vitamins. Each
vitamin gives 10 EVs to a specific stat. Again with the limits, only 10
vitamins can be used on a specific stat, ie. 100 EVs or 25 EPs.

Second is the Macho Brace. The Macho Brace simply doubles the number of EVs
gained when you defeat a specific Poke'mon. For example, if I defeated a
Zubat with the Macho Brace as a Held Item, I would gain 2 EVs into Speed
instead of one.

Included in this section is the Power Series. When held, the Poke'mon will
gain an additional 4 EVs! Unfortuately, the Power Series cuts your Speed stat
in half during battle.

==============================================================================
Stats - IVs      [STIVS]
==============================================================================

IVs are very complicated. To put it simply, IVs are what make same-specie
Poke'mon different. When you battle a Poke'mon, its IVs are randomy generated.
There is no known way of changing IVs but there is a way of influencing them.
The only way to influence IVs is through breeding. Generally, a bred Poke'mon
has higher IVs than a wild Poke'mon.

Simply continue breeding Poke'mon and throwing its stats into an IV
Calculater to determine its IVs. If they are undesirable, release it.

==============================================================================
Abilities      [ABILI]
==============================================================================

Abilities are complicated to explain, but easy to understand. Each Poke'mon
one or two possibilites of an Ability and once it has once, it is stuck with
it.

Each ability has different effects, from attracting specific attacks or
Poke'mon to them to increasing its own stats in specific conditions.

A list of all the Abilities and their effects is available in the [ABIDX]
section.

==============================================================================
Happiness      [HAPPY]
==============================================================================

Happiness is a semi-hidden value, only checkable from the lady in Goldenrod
City, above the Bike Shop. Happiness has two purposes. For one, it causes
some Poke'mon to evolve, and two, changes the strength of two attacks, Return
and Frustration.

There are many ways to influence Happiness. The easiest and most immediate is
using a Luxury Ball to capture it.

The other methods include having it in your party, letting it battle (and not
letting it faint), giving it haircuts in the Goldenrod City Undergroun and
giving it vitamins.

To decrease Happiness, allow the Poke'mon to faint a lot in battle and feed it
bitter medicines (ie. Heal Powder).

Also, keep in mind that the item called the Soothe Ball increases the amount
of Happiness gained or lost by any of the above methods.

As mentioned above, Happiness allows specific Poke'mon to evolve. Here is a
lovely chart explaining this.

+------------------------+-------------------------+-------+
| Pre-evolution Poke'mon | Post-evolution Poke'mon | Notes |
+========================+=========================+=======+
| Golbat                 | Crobat                  |       |

+------------------------+-------------------------+-------+

On the note of Return and Frustration, their attack power changes depenfing on
how much a Poke'mon likes you (Return) or hates you (Frustration).

==============================================================================
Breeding      [BREED]
==============================================================================

Breeding is probably the most complicated Game Mechanic in Poke'mon. But, here
we go.

The offspring will always be the same species as the female parent.

To Breed Poke'mon, you need two Poke'mon from the same Egg Group, check the
Egg Group Index [EGIDX] section.

The purposes of breeding are the following: to pass on Natures, to pass on
(some) IVs, Pokedex completion, and Chain Breeding.

Now to go more in depth. If you want to give a Poke'mon a specific Nature, for
example, Adamant, I would use something called the Everstone Method. This
method is done by attaching an Everstone to the female or the Ditto. When the
egg is hatched, the baby has a 50% chance that is has the same Nature as the
female.

To pass on IV's, give each parent an item from the Power Series, obviously
corresponding to the wanted IVs. Again another chart. YAY

+--------------+----------------+
| Item         | Inherited Stat |
+==============+================+
| Power Anklet | Speed          |
| Power Band   | Sp. Defense    |
| Power Belt   | Defense        |
| Power Bracer | Attack         |
| Power Lens   | Sp. Attack     |
| Power Weight | HP             |
+--------------+----------------+

So, if I wanted to transfer over my Attack and Special Attack Ivs, I would
give the parents a Power Bracer and Power Lens.

Some Poke'mon can only be attained through breeding (or trading. But then
again, they would have had to breed that Poke'mon themselves). These Poke'mon
are: Igglybuff, Pichu, Cleffa, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Azurill and Wynaut.

Lastly there's Attack Breeding. Attack Breeding allows four types of moves to be
passed onto the baby Poke'mon. They are:

* Start Moves, one or two attacks that Poke'mon learn at level 5 or below,
  most notably Tackle.
* Common Moves, attacks that both parents know via leveling.
* HMs, TMs or Move Tutor attacks that the male knows.
* Any attacks that the offspring can only learn from the male parent's
  moveset. Remember that the offspring will be the same specie as the female
  and thus couldn't learn some attacks that only male does

Also keep im mind something called Variable Eggs. Some Poke'mon will produce
different eggs depenging on the Item that the female is holding. The top
offspring is with the Held item, the bottom, without. Chart:

After a few minutes the Day-Care Man will hand you and egg (must have a free
slot). Now to hatch your egg. Eggs don't hatch with time, rather steps. the
easiest way to hatch your egg is to get on a bike and ride between Routes,
back and forth.

Type Guide      [TYPGD]
==============================================================================

In Poke'mon Heart Gold, each Poke'mon can be given either one or two types,
and each attack has one type. For the sake of this section, we'll take Pikachu
as our example. Pikachu's type is simply electric.

These types come into advantage in battle. For example, If I used an Electric-
type attack against, say, the water-typed Magikarp, I would have the
advantage. This means that Electric is Super Effective against Water. If I
attacked a Grass-type with a Water-typed attack, I would have the
disadvantage. Depending if a Poke'mon's attack is strong against a certain
type, you do x2 damage. If the attack is weak against a certain type, it will
only do x0.5 damage.

Also, there is something called STAB (or Same Type Attack Boost). This means
that if the type of my attack is the same as the type of my Poke'mon, I would
do more damage, specifically 1.5x damage. For example, if I used my Psyduck's
(Water-type) Water Gun (Water-type) against a Ponyta (Fire-type), I would do
x2 damage for type advantage and x1.5 damage for STAB. This means my attack
would do x3.5 damage on the enemy.

Some types are completely immune to other types. For example, Ground-type
attacks will do no damage against Flying-type Poke'mon.

All this information is contained in the chart below.

When you start the game you are in your house in New Bark Town. Start off by
walking down the stairs in the upper left-hand side of the screen. Downstairs,
you are greeted by you mom who gives you a Bag to carry your items, a Trainer
Card, and the Options and Save icons. The icons of both will appear on the
Bottom Screen and you can touch them at any time to open your Bag, view your
Trainer Card, change in-game options or save your game.

After the conversation with your mom is over, walk outside, where you are
greeted with a Marill, which is swiftly taken away by its owner, your friend.
Head to the left of the town and, if you wish, talk to the man with red hair
outside Professor Elm's Laboratory. After this conversation, walk inside the
Lab. Inside, walk up and talk to the Professor. Following the conversation,
head to the machine to the right and choose a Poke'mon. Totodile, the Water-
type Poke'mon is on the left, Chikorita, the Grass-type, in the centre and
Cynadquil, the Fire-type, on the right. Touch the Poke Ball, and again to
confirm, which contains the Poke'mon you wish to join you on your adventure.
You are then given the option of nicknaming it. From now until you chose to
change it, the Poke'mon will follow you. The Professor then tells you your
mission and where to heal your Poke'mon. Before leaving the Lab, someone will
hand you some Potions. Leave the Lab.

Outside, you're greeted by you friend who asks you to talk to your Poke'mon
and show it to your mom. To talk to your Poke'mon, simply face it and press A.
Continue to your house and talk to your mom. During the conversation, your mom
returns your Pokegear, its icon appearing on the Bottom Screen. She then tells
you how to use it as a phone. Upon talking to your mom again, she tells you
that you can reach Mr. Poke'mon via Route 29 and 30, just west of the town.
Just prior to leaving the town, the Professor registers himself on your
Pokegear. Continue out of the town.

Walk west then south into the grass where you'll encounter your first Poke'mon
battle. If you know how to battle, skip this paragraph, if now continue
reading. The Poke'mon you are facing appears on the top-right of the Upper
Screen with its Health Points, gender and Level displayed on the top-left.
Underneath is your Poke'mon on the bottom-left with its information on the
bottom-right. On the Bottom Screen are the following options: Fight, Bag, Run,
and Items. The names themselves are quite self-explanatory. Click Fight and
choose an attack. You and the wild Poke'mon will take turns attacking until
one faints. If you succeed, you are granted EXP, or Experience. If you lose
you drop some money and return home. You are returned to the map to continue
your adventure.

Continue south and then west. Head north, between the brown ledges, and make
your way the north-east corner for a Potion. Head westward and you'll find a
tree on a raised ledge, examine it and take note for later. Continue westward
and enter Cherrygrove City.

the game, he will trade Shards for Berries. In the house to the left, past
the Poke'mon Centre, is a man who will give you an Onyx for a Bellsprout. On
the bottom floor an attendant will give you the Pal Pad. Outside, head west
and speak to the man between the Gym and the PokeMart, who will lead you to
the Poke'mon School. Inside, read the board to learn about status effects,
(this is also described in the [EFFEC] section) and listen to the teacher's
words. In the south-west corner of the town is a Ylw (Yellow) Apricorn Tree.
On the square two over and two down from the top left corner of the island
connecting the Sprout Tower to the town is a Poke Ball. When you get Rock
Smash, destroy the rock at the east side of town for a Hyper Potion. When
you're ready, enter the Sprout Tower, north of the Poke'mon School.

You can easily beat Falkner with Cyndaquil, but the other two Starters are
unfortunate. The best way is to simply whittle down his HP. Sometimes
Pidgeotto will use Roost which is a complete annoyance.

After beating Falkner, you'll receive the Zephyr Badge. This badge allows all
Poke'mon with levels up to 20 will obey your orders. Also, it allows you to
use HM06 Rock Smash outside of battle. Lastly, Falkner gives you TM51
Roost. Before you leave, Falkner mentions that the next Gym is in Azalea Town.

After leaving the Gym, Professor Elm calls and asks you to carry the
Mysterious Egg. Go to the Violet City PokeMart and pick it up from the man
wearing the white suit. Make sure you have an extra space in your party. Also,
grab a Super Potion from the man in the red suit. After everything is said
and done, leave the city via Route 36 in the west.

rocks, you may encounter a wild Poke'mon. If its a Geodude, try and catch it,
this will be the Technical Poke'mon I mentioned in the section above. After
smashing the rock on the left, you may find a Shard. Return to Violet City
and exchange it for berries from the man beside the Poke'mon Centre. Opposite
that is a Hyper Potion. Inside the top-most an enterable ruin is a Potion.
Make sure you're all the way in and facing west. On the south-east destroyed
ruins is a Great Ball. It is placed on the north-west rock of these ruins. At

When you enter the main part of the town, past the Slowpoke Well, the
Mysterious Egg should hatch into a Togepi and you should receive a call from
Professor Elm. He asks you to show him the Poke'mon that hatched, we'll do
that later. First, head to the south-east house and inspect the logs to
retrieve a Full Heal. Shake down the apricorn tree in the north-western part
of town to get a Wht (White) Apricorn and enter the house. Inside, talk to
the old man, Kurt. After a short introduction, he leaves to save the Slowpoke
from Team Rocket. Leave the village and go down the well.

who disbanded Team Rocket, three years ago. Before you leave, Kurt give you a
Fast Ball and takes an Apricorn to be made into a Ball. Choose whichever
Apricot you wish, keeping in mind the information on Apricorn in the [ITEMS]
section. Also, Kurt's daughter will give you his number, so you know when your
Ball is ready. Now you are free to enter the Azalea Town Gym.

After you beat Bugsy, he'll give you the Hive Badge. With it, Poke'mon up to

gives you TM89 U-Turn. When you done talking to Bugsy, flip the switch, step

Head north and talk to the guy near the awkwardly shaped bush. He'll ask you
to go find his Farfetch'd. Head west and step on the branches on the ground to
make the Farfetch'd look down. Continue north, moving around the branches and
around the bend to appear behind the Farfetch'd. Press A to collect it and
you'll return it to its owner.

Next, move all the way east, picking up the Revive along the way. Head north
and step on the branches, making it look right. Then move toward it and press
A to make it run down. Walk up to it and press A to make it run right and
repeat to make it run up. Step on the branches so that Farfetch'd faces the
right. Finally, walk around the group of trees without stepping on the
branches and catch the Farfetch'd. After returning the second Farfetch'd to
its owner, a man approaches and hands you HM01 Cut. Teach it to a Poke'mon,
so far either Paras or Rattata.

Use cut on the strangely shaped bush and take the west fork. After changing
directions to east, take the south path to find an X Attack on the tile at the
end. After moving north a little bit, move between the trees to the pond and
collect an Antidote. Continue east then north. Instead of passing through the
ledge, head around the group of trees and talk to the man and he'll teach
Headbutt to one Poke'mon. At the moment, my Rattata has learned Rock Smash,
Cut and Headbutt. Now test it out on the trees and you could encounter the
explosive Pineco.

Jump off the ledge and continue north, through the ledge. As you do so, Kimono
Girl will ask you to help her out of the forest, but your Starter Poke'mon
will do the job for you. Collect the Ether to the east. Continue west to exit
the forest. Inside the building, talk to the lady at the counter to receive
TM12 Taunt. Continue north to Route 34.

First, head into the Goldenrod City Department Store. Check the various shops
and take note of the person on the 5th floor (far west wall) who will give you
a Machop for a Drowsee. You may also take the elevator down to the first
basement floor (B1F). In the basement talk to the first worker to get the
Machoke to move the crate. Beyond, grab the Ultra Ball. Talk to the second
worker twice (while she is facing each Machoke), west of the first, and grab
an Ether and a Burn Heal. After, leave the building.

Cross the main road and pass by the Game Corner, the one with the illuminated
diamond, inside, talk to the man at the game table to get the Coin Case.
Walking west then south. Enter the far south building to encounter your friend
once again and he/she gives you the Fashion Case. Head downstairs and battle

If you wish you could try out the Dress-up Shop and draw for a random
Accessory inside the gallery. When you're done, head upstairs.

On the other side of the road, opposite the Game Corner, and down the alley,
inside the first house it a lady who will check the relationship between you
and your lead Poke'mon. This is important in the [EVOLU] section.

Continuing south, enter the Bike Shop and talk to the man to receive your best

Head north on crossroad and head west entering the second building, the

complete the quiz. The questions are simple and when you're done, you'll
receive the Radio Card. Upon completion, Whitney, the Goldenrod City Gym
Leader, returns to the Gym. Head upstairs and talk to the girl beside the
microphone to receive the Blue Card.

Back outside and north another crossroad is the Name Rater on the left, and on
the right is the Gym and Flower Shop. At this moment, heal up and head for the
Gym. By this time, you should be roughly level 30. If you want to be safe,
return to Route 34 and start levelling.

As the guy at the entrance said, use a Fighting-type if you're having trouble
beating Whitney's Miltank. It can get very annoying with her combination of
Milk Drink and Attract. Also, it seems that Stomp hits a critical nearly every
time. Still, Whitney isn't difficult to defeat.

When you do beat Whitney, she simply cries and doesn't give you the badge
until you try leave. When you talk to her again, she hands over the Plain
Badge which allows Poke'mon up to level 40 obey you and allows Strength to be
used outside battle. She also gives you TM45 Attract.

Next, head next door, the Flower Shop and talk to the lady to revive the
Squirt Bottle. Before you leave town, drop off a Poke'mon in your Box at the
Poke'mon Centre. Now that you have an empty slot, talk to the red guard in the
building at the northern tip of Goldenrod City to receive a Spearow holding
mail. The guard tells you to deliver the mail to someone on Route 31. For now,
we'll leave this for later. Continue north to Route 35.

Start on the bottom row, moving from left to right. In second building on the
bottom row, is a man who hands over the Dowsing MCHN.

Let's try out this new item. Examine the second lantern at the west exit to
receive an Ultra Ball. A Rare Candy is located on the tile one away from the
north and one from the east tree on the east of town, just east of the pond.
If necessary, use the Dowsing Machine to find it. In the centre of town, with
the town's sign, examine the northern-most dirt pile to receive a Hyper
Potion. On the pile of burnt rafters beside the Burn Tower is an Ether.

When you enter the Poke'mon Centre, a man named Bill talks to you and leaves.
In the next row upwards, enter the Dance Theatre, the second building from the
right. Inside, a Team Rocket member is assaulting a Kimono Girl. Its time to
step up. Get ready for battle.

information. At the very least you should beat his Starter in 2-3 hits.

Continuing around the perimeter of the room, battle the trainers and grab the
following items: Antidote and HP Up (behind Rock Smash-able rocks). Also, use

a trainer, note where the path changes. After defeating each trainer, step
around them (along the path noticed before) and continue to the next. Before
long, you should be ready to fight Morty.

During your battle with Morty, you should keep in mind that Normal-type
attacks don't affect Morty's Ghost-type Poke'mon. Otherwise, this battle is
quite straight forward with enough levels.

After your battle, Morty will hand over the Fog Badge. This badge allows all
Poke'mon below level 50 to obey you and allow you to use Surf outside battle.
Lastly, he gives you TM30 Shadow Ball. At this point, you could head over
to the Bell Tower via the Barrier Station, but you'll be turned back before
anything happens. For now, head west to Route 38.

fence; near the top), a Nugget (on the southern-most tile with blades of
grass), an X Attack (by the eastern-most tile with blades or grass) and TM60
 Drain Punch (in the item ball behind the tower).

Head inside the barn (the one on the left) and feed the Miltank five Oran

The man in the left house will give you a Voltorb for a Voltorb. In the right
house is a little girl who will give you some Seals. Outside, walk along the
left side and up, examining the rock at the end for a Full Heal.

Head down to the dock and use Surf off the side, hug the wall around the
corner and land on a miniscule section of beach and collect the TM57 Charge
Beam before heading back. Head inside the port and exit through the west
exit. Outside, examine the suspicious south-east tile to get a Pearl. Sell
both the Pearl and the Nugget you gained earlier at the PokeMart for a total
of 5700.

Since, the Gym Leader is at the Lighthouse, that is our next destination.

don't worry about it if your Poke'mon is fast. Chuck uses both a Super Potion
and Sitris Berry to heal mid-battle, but thats to be expected from a Gym
Leader.

Without further adieu, he hands over the Storm Badge which allows you to use
Fly outside of battle. Also, he gives you TM01 Focus Punch.

When you leave the Gym, the lady gives you HM02 Fly. Teach it to a Poke'mon
and head off for Olivine Lighthouse. Use the elevator to get to the top floor
and hand over the Secret Potion to Jasmine. Her Amphrados will get better and
light returns to the Lighthouse. Jasmine then returns to the Gym. Time to
follow her. When you leave the Lighthouse, Baoba calls and tells you that the
Safari Zone is finally open.

Olivine City Gym      [00302]
=============================================================================

To make this Gym easy, use a Fire-type. So far there is only Cyndaquil,
Growlithe and Rapidash (Poke Walker, check the [PKWKR] section for more
info).

Walk north. The trainers wont actually challenge you so just continue to
Jasmine herself.

Her Magnemite are push-overs, but her Steelix on the other hand is difficult.
Its defence is very high and any attack not Fire-typed seems to do very
little damage. Of course this is why a Fire-type Poke'mon is mentioned above.
Strangely enough, I managed to one hit her entire team with Typhlosion.

When the battle is over, Jasmine relinquishes the Mineral Badge, which makes
Poke'mon up to level 70 obey your commands. Also, she gives you TM23 Iron
Tail.

Return to the Alph Ruins [00310]
=============================================================================

Next, fly to Violet city and return to the Ruins of Alph. Enter the top
ruins on the right, and pass through to the right. Continue on your way
upward and through another building. Do the same (to the left this time) and
enter the First Puzzle Room.

Tap pieces to rotate them and hold/slide to move them. When all the pieces
are in the right place it looks like a Kabuto and the puzzle glows and the
floor opens up. Downstairs, an archaeologist hands you the Unown Report. From
this point on you can encounter Unowns, representing letters A through Z.
Head around the winging corridors and exit via a ladder.

Move south and use Surf, getting to the other side (make sure you're on the
left side of the ruins when you land). Enter the ruin (going east) and make
your way to the Second Puzzle Room (moving north). Its the same drill as
before, fix the puzzle. This time the puzzle is in the shape of an
Aerodactyl.

For the third puzzle room, return to Union Cave and go north past
Firebreather Ray and head downstairs. Use Surf on the water and head north,
challenging the trainer.

This puzzle is shaped like Ho-oh.

To get to the Fourth Puzzle Room, make a side trip to Route 42. When you try
to enter the cave, a hiker bumps into you and gives you HM04 Strength.
Teach it to a Poke'mon. Head back to the bottom level of Union cave, near
where you split to get to the Third Puzzle Room (Near Hiker Phillip) take the
south path and use Strength on boulder and move it one tile to the left. Head
up the stairs and eventually outside. Use the Dowsing Machine to find a
Nugget. Sell this later when you get to town. Enter the Puzzle room to the
east, being careful not to jump off the ledge. This puzzle is shaped like
an Omanyte.

After completing each puzzle, talk to the researchers. They will add some
more information to your Unown Report. When you collect all 26 Unown, talk to
the researcher again and he will rearrange your Unown Report.

Also, in the First Puzzle Room, use an Escape Rope at the panel behind the
puzzle block. It'll disappear and walk through the opening. Here, grab the
four items, Heal Powder, Energy Powder, a Pecha Berry and an Oran Berry.
When you drop through the floor the words say Our clan engraved words on
this place...

In the Second Puzzle Room, use Flash by the panel. Inside, grab the four
items: Heal Powder, Energy Root, Moon Stone and a Sitrus Berry. Down stairs,
the words spell out, Out clan created Poke'mon statue outside...

The rooms behind the other panels cannot be completed yet.

Now that you have fly, you can complete a few things.

First, make sure Topegi is in the first slot of your party and fly to New
Bark Town and talk to Professor Elm. After your conversation, you receive an
Everstone. Also use the Dowsing Machine to find a Potion behind Professor
Elm's mailbox.

Second, fly to Violet City and exit to the east to Route 31. Talk to the man
by the water and show him Kenya the Spearow when prompted. In return, he
gives you TM44  Rest.

Lastly, fly to Goldenrod and talk to Bill at his house. When you do he will
give you an Eevee. Eevee can be evolved into Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon,
Espeon or Umbreon. Check the [EVOLU] section for more information.

This is it for now, head to Route 42 via the east exit of Ecruteak City.

to just use a strong Electric-type. Fire-types are an easy way to eliminate
his Piloswine, but only Electric-types seem to do a decent amount of damage.
Pryce's Dewgong uses Rest whenever its health is low and uses Sleep Talk to
take advantage of this.

When your battle is over, Pryce give you the Glacier Badge which, according
to the game, raises the Special stats of Pokemon and allows you to use
Whirlpool outside of battle. Lastly, he gives you TM07 -Hail. When you're
done leave the Gym. Outside, Professor Elm calls. He tells you that Team
Rocket has taken over the radio waves. Promptly fly to Goldenrod City and
head for the Underground. Once there talk to the Team Rocket Grunt to get a
Team Rocket uniform. Time to infiltrate the Goldenrod City Radio Tower.

In the first house that you encounter is a girl who will give you her Dodrio
for a Dragonair(F). If your relationship with your lead Poke'mon is great
enough, the lay beside her will give you an Effort Ribbon. Beside the
PokeMart is the Move Deleter. With him, you can forget any attack, even HMs.
The man beside him will teach your Poke'mon any attack that is was able to
learn when it was levelling, but it'll cost you a Heart Scale. Beside him
is a lady who will teach a Dragon-type Poke'mon. Lastly is the Move Tutor. He
will teach Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon or Frenzy Plant to any of the Starters
(obviously the types have to match).

When you are ready head right for the Gym.

Welcome to the last, and obviouly hardest, Poke'mon Gym in Johto. Clair, the
Leader, focuses on Dragon-type Poke'mon. Thus, use a strong Ice-type that you
picked up in Ice Path.

When you walk forward, your stalker tells you to put your Poke'mon in their
Balls and gives you the above hint. This Gym utilizes moving and rotating
platforms. For the first platform, walk onto the left arrow. Then walk on and
off the blue circle until the open end of the platform is facing up. Then
walk onto the now right arrow.

On the other side, battle the two trainers. The white circle transports you
to the beginning if you wish to heal.

Take out Gyarados with a strong Electric-type. Her Kingdra is the only
Poke'mon that poses a real problem. It's main form of attack is Hydro Pump, a
pretty strong Water-type attack. If your Poke'mon is weak to water, like my
Typhlosion, make it hold a Passho Berry. It removed the damage multiplier for
super-effective Water-tpe attacks. Instead of OHKO'ing my Typhlosion, is only
did around 50 damage. Continue to take out her heam with and Ice-type or
Electric-type as suggested.

After your battle with Clair concludes, she refuses to give you the Badge and
tells you to go to the Dragon's Den to prove yourself. Exit the Gym with the
white circle, heal up and Surf across the water behind the Gym to enter the
Dragon's Den. Make sure you have a Poke'mon with Surf and Whirlpool.

Grab the Max Elixer and head east, using Whirlpool to get past the
whirlpool. Surf around the corne, past the shrine, and north. Land and run up
the stairs to grab the Dragon Fang. Use Surf again and return to the shrine.

Answer the questions as follows: Friend, Strategy, Strong, Love, Both.

At this moment Clair barges in, hoping for your failure. When the elder
brings Lance into the conversation, Clair hastily hands over the Rising
Badge. Now, Waterfall can be used outside of battle and all Poke'mon will
obey you.

Exit the shrine and Surf all the way to the front. Use the Dowsing Machine
again to find another Max Elixer. It seems we are done here. On your way to
the exit you are once again confronted by Clair. This time, she gives you
TM59 - Dragon Pulse.

When you leave the Dragon's Den, Professor Elm calls and tells you to stop by
his Lab. Instead of using Fly, walk south through Route 45.

the Kimono Girl Zuki will tell you that they asked Mr. Poke'mon to give the

The Kimono Girls are actually quite simple to defeat, except for the fact
that you can't heal or switch Poke'mon between battles. Simply exploit their
weaknesses for example use an Electric-type to defeat Kuni's Vaporeonand so
on. When all the Kimono Girls are defeated they give you the Clear Bell.

Now its time for the Bell Tower.

To get to the Bell Tower, enter the Barrier Station, north of the Kimono

Bellchime Trail. At the end is Bell Tower.

This section of the guide only focuses on reaching the top of the tower as
opposed to getting all the items.

taking the north-east jump. When at the pillar, take the near-by jump and go
up the north-west ladder.

This time, take the jump in the middle of the north wall. Move south, not
moving toward the pillar, and essentially take the centre of three paths to a
ladder going up.

step on the tile

+---------+
| Floor 9 |
+---------+

Immediately climb the ladder.

+----------+
| Floor 10 |
+----------+

Cross the plank and head upstairs.

+--------------------+
| Floor 11 - Rooftop |
+--------------------+

Before moving, save your game. After the cinematic, challenge Ho-oh.

+-------------------------+
| Ho-oh            Lv. 45 |
+-------------------------+
| Extrasensory  Sunny Day |
| Fire Blast Sacred Fire |
+-------------------------+

Again, this is a Poke'mon that you should catch. Ho-oh used Sunny Day in
conjunction with Sacred Fire to eliminate any Poke'mon that isn't resistant
to Fire-type attacks.

Use strong and weak Fire-type attacks to ever so slowly whittle down his HP.
When his HP is low enough, use Flase Swipe to bring his HP to 1. Next, put
him to sleep and start tossing Ultra/Net Balls. After 12 or so Ultra Balls,
Ho-oh will be yours. Congradulations.

Use Fly and go to New Bark Town. From there head east and Surf across the
water and into the region of Kanto.

Johto Walkthrough End.

Head west and down the ledges to collect a Max Elixer. Go all the way around
and enter the Reception Gate to the north.

When you enter, an officer makes sure that you have the eight Johto Gym
Badges and then allows you to continue. Two officers block your access to
Mount Silver to the west and the rest of Kanto to the east. For the time
being, head north to Victory Road.

At this time, you may want to bike back to the woman on Route 26 to heal
your Poke'mon.

Use Strength on the boulder and push it upward one tile before continueing
west. Head down the stairs and move east. Grab the Potion and continue
upstairs. Next use the Dowsing Machine to find a Full Heal. Then, cross the
bridge. Take the west stairs and grab another Full Heal from under the
bridge.

North is another, simple, boulder puzzle. Push the southern block east and
grab the Max Revive. Retrace your steps and move north to a ladder.

Upstairs, run south, up the stairs and east. At the end of the long corridor
is a ladder. Upstairs, immediately jump down the hole. Run north and west
pushing the boulder west one tile. Use the stairs to move around it and grab
the Full Restore on the other side. Push the block back to the right and take
the stairs to a ladder.

Upstairs, manouver around the hole and grab the Ultra Ball and continue west.
From here are two holes.

If you wish, you can take the north hole and grab a HP UP. Jump down the
ledge and climb the ladder. Run north and take the east fork and Rock Smash
the three rocks for TM79 - Dark Pulse.

Before heading north, save your game. Its time to battle someone special.

doesn't seem to make a difference. Simply dispatch each of his Poke'mon with
a well trained advantaged Poke'mon and you should have the battle in under
seven turns.

After your battle, leave through the north entrance.

Grab the Iron to the right, using the Dowsing Machine if necessary and leave
the port. As you walk along the dock, Eusine and Suicune appear, then
disappears. From Eusine, you learn that Suicune loves water. Who knew.

At the first opportunity, Surf south and grab the Luck Incense from the

for a Heart Scale.

Now time for the town tour. Enter the house above the Gym and talk to the guy

raised platform to the right of town is Cameron the Photographer. Beside him
and behind the rock is a Full Heal. Thats all for now. Use Cut or Surf to

On the next row is Silph Co. Inside talk to the officer by the elevator for
the Up-Grade. Along the top row is the Magnet Train (currently out of
service) which brings you to Johto (no you can't fly there), the Fighting
Dojo, where you can re-battle Gym Trainers (more on that in the Sidequest
