Ah, Mario Kart DS. SO GOOD! (bum, bum) SO GOOD! (bum)... Sorry for breaking in
to song. It's a habit of mine. Okay... BUT! This game features many karts, and
an odd feature is that you can use a heavy character in a light kart. There are
many features that are unlockable in the game like that. Note that the primary
and standard karts come with the character if no features are unlocked. Now,
you may need help knowing what the stats mean. If you do, here is an overview:
Speed - A high speed stat means that a kart has a high top speed, but it
takes a while to get to said top speed.
Acceleration - A kart with high acceleration gains speed very quickly. However,
in the long run, it won't go very fast.
Weight - I'm pretty sure you can guess this one. Generally, the lighter
the kart, lower the top speed will be.
Handling - A high stat in this category means that when not drifting, the
kart will lose almost no speed.
Drift - A higher drift stat means you will drift inward. The lower the
stat, the more you swing when you drift.
Items - The higher this stat is, the better your items will be, AND the
less damage will be done to you from an item.

Light Characters - These have good acceleration and handling.
Medium Characters - These are well rounded out.
