Like many other FAQs, I have added tags onto the sections for easier searching. To jump directly to a section, hit Ctrl+F and enter the code (#xxx). I have written the FAQ as spoiler-free as possible, although it might contain slight or heavy spoilers regarding the story. All bosses have strategies for both Soma and Julius modes listed. Souls are also described, and tagged by type with either [B]ullet, [G]uardian, or [A]bility. All souls are listed in Japanese names. This is also the first FAQ I've ever typed up, and obviously, it will have some formatting, grammatical, and typing errors. If you have any questions regarding this FAQ, the game, see something wrong, or anything else, feel free to contact me by the methods below: e-mail: zan.exe(a)gmail.com AIM: Arima Zan MSN: i_have_holy_socks(a)hotmail.com \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 2. Bosses __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Flying Armor #FA Recommended Level: 3 Seal Level: 1 Soul: [G] Slows down falling speed *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- The Guardian Soul from Aria of Sorrow now comes in the form of a boss. He's not too hard. All you need to do is jump in the air and attack him when he's floating around freely. After a few seconds of giving you a chance to deal some damage, he'll start to attack. It only has two moves, both of which are easy to dodge. If his swords move and point towards you, simply backdash or step aside until the swords launch at you and go off-screen. Continue to beat him down after he starts his other move. His second is pretty easily dodged, just as the first one. If his swords point outwards, get ready to jump. Make sure you're not standing directly under him,or you may end up taking some touch damage from it. His third attack simply makes his blades spin around him. Stand away from him, it shouldn't hurt you at all. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Just follow Soma's strategy. The fight shouldn't be to difficult, even with Julius' limited abilities. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Balore #BA Recommended Level: 8 Seal Level: 1 Soul: [A] Allows you to break Crystal Blocks with stylus *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- The giant that smashed Giant Bat in the Aria of Sorrow Arena is back. When you enter the fight, immediately run up to his face and duck. I recommend you take an overhead- swinging weapon with you (you should have the Claymore), to avoid having to jump and attack. Keep swinging while ducked next to him. If he brings his fist towards the floor, slide out of the way to avoid his punch. It'll deal some heavy damage, and push you up to the ceiling. His next skill is similar, although this time, he'll bring his hand towards his body. At first he'll punch forward, and it shouldn't hit you unless you're standing up or jumping. After he finishes this punch, he'll do it again along the ground. You'll either clear his swipe completely, or catch a ride on it. Either way, you won't take damage. His third is an eye laser, which you saw while walking up to the crystal blocks at the entrance to the room. He's pretty obvious to warn you whenhe's going to use it, as you'll hear a charging noise and see his eye glow. If you're not ducking, do so. It'll passright over your head. Stay ducked and keep attacking, he'll go down eventually. When you're done, break the crystal blocks to your right with the stylus. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- This can be pretty tough if you make a few wrong moves. Follow the same as Soma's strategy above. You'll want to constantly be throwing Axes as Julius, or occasionally use Holy Lightning as Yoko. Both do decent damage. If you decide to attack as Julius, you're going to have to jump to do any damage to Balore. If you use Yoko, however, attacking normally while standing up should reach him. You probably won't be able to kill him the first time around, but if you find yourself having to reset every few minutes, try heading back and leveling up a bit. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Dmitrii #DI Recommended Level: 13 Seal Level: N/A, although door is level 2 Soul: Human Soul (Relevant to Best ending) *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Start of by attacking him with a Skeleton bullet soul. You should have one, unless you freed it or used it to upgrade a weapon. After he absorbs it, simply continue to attack with your normal weapons. He'll go down rather easily. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Hit him with an Axe once, since it's the easiest spell to dodge that you have. Continue to lay beatings on him. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Malphas #MA Recommended Level: 14 Seal Level: 2 Soul: [A] Allows you to Double Jump and kick *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Also known as "Karasuman" in other games. Stay near him and keep attacking. If he lands and ravens appear swarming into him, run close to him and slide under or behind him when he flies up into the air. He'll begin to throw tons of ravens, but they only reach so far to his side. If, however, he lands and does not summon ravens, back up a bit. He'll either shoot out blue feathers both left and right (stand under him to dodge), or throw electric balls at you. Jump over them. Repeat the dodging patterns. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Do the same as Soma. Axes and Holy Lightning help here also. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Dario #DA1 Recommended Level: 16 Seal Level: N/A - Door is level 2 Soul: N/A *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Keep a short distance from him while attacking. If he shoots a fireball, quickly jump over it or duck. He'll also send a flame wave, which can be tough too dodge if you're too close. If there's some space between you and him, simply jump over the wave. If you're close to him, you might want to backdash first then jump. Occasionally, he'll summon three fire pillars. They make an orange cirle on the floor before they rise, so you have enough time to run away from them. They can either all appear next to eachother, or appear wherever you're standing. It's random. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- It's best to use Julius for his decent range with his whip, but Yoko can also be fought with. If you use Yoko, duck near him and keep kicking. If he's about to use the pillars or wave, use her backdash to get away from them. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Puppet Master #PM Recommended Level: 20 Seal Level: 3 Soul: [B] Allows you to throw a puppet to teleport with *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- The huge grotesque marionette isn't too hard to take down, but one of his moves can take a large chunk of health from you. You'll want to have an overhead-swinging weapon, either a large sword, hammer, or axe weapon. I recommend the large sword types the most, since they're slightly faster than axe types. Start off by just attacking from straight under it. You might get hit by a floating doll while doing so, but the damage it does isn't too serious. The thing you really need to be careful about are his puppets and iron maidens. Every once in a while, you'll hear a bubbling sound and see a glow in one of his hands. When the puppet appears, destroy it. It should take about 2 hits, assuming you do about 45-60 damage with each swing. If you fail to destroy the puppet in time, you'll switch places with it and come flying out of the bloody cage. A few hits from this and you'll be dead. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Use Yoko and stand right under him. Keep attacking with your club. Like on most bosses, shoot a Holy Lightning blast every once in a while to do some extra damage. Alternatively, you could switch to Julius and throw axes or boomerangs. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Gergoth #GE Recommended Level: 25+ Seal Level: 3 Soul: [G] Fires a continuous laser forward *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Most of the time, you'll want to be directly under his head. This is to make sure you aren't hit by his feet, and have enough time to run away from him if he jumps or begins to suck in air. His most common attack is his jump. You'll know when he's about to do it simply by watching his movement. If he backs up completely to the wall without stepping forward at any time, he's about to leap. Stand somewhere where his head won't hit you while he ducks. When he takes off, run to the other side of the room. His next attack is a gas thing. He'll duck down and start shaking. Stand in the corner of the room. When he shoots the gas, it'll either be poison (purple) or stone (grey). Both can be repelled by swinging a weapon at it. If the skin on his head pulls back and you are sucked towards him, run away. Jump when he slams his head down. It should be pretty easy to avoid, but you'll find yourself occasionally being hit on the way down. His third attack is probably the easiest to avoid, although it does the most damage. When you see a big ball forming near his mouth, run under him. Make sure you don't hit his feet. He'll fire a beam that covers most of the area in front of him. As soon as the beam is being moved back up, slide out of under his head. If you don't, his feet will most likely hit you. When you do enough damage, he'll jump up in the air and break through the entire tower. You should be able to get about four hits on the way down. Make sure to hit select to switch to your map (if you haven't done so), to know when you should start backing away from him while falling. Continue the strategy above. You're going to have to be a bit faster this time, though, since his movements will speed up after you land. Don't worry if you can't defeat him the first time. Just reload your data and keep trying. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- You're probably going to have a much more painful time playing as the trio than Soma. The best way to defeat him is to keep attacking as Julius with Holy Water and his whip. If you get hit by his foot or head, you could try regaining some health by switching over to Yoko and kicking him. Don't rely on this too much, though, as you'll quickly lose the health again. You could also use Yoko's backdash to get under his jumps or avoid his head slam. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Rahab #RA Recommended Level: 25 Seal Level: 3 Soul: [A] Allows you to walk underwater *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Not too hard of a boss, either. Wait for the fish-snake-eel thing to jump up into the air; that's your chance to attack. When it comes up out of the water, it'll do one of 3 things. The first is jump over you, Free Willy-style. It leaves behind a couple of ice spikes that fall down. Swim between them to avoid getting hit. It should stall a few seconds under you, where you can also jump up in the air and slash after you enter the water. The second thing it'll do is spin around and break all of the ice platforms it's made. Lastly, it'll make ice platforms that you can stand on. But don't. It's better to float in the water and avoid being hurt when he breaks the platforms. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- This plays a bit differently since the trio automatically has the ability to walk underwater. Just stay under him and keep attacking. When he swims to the bottom of the pool, duck down and attack. If you're standing up while it descends you'll be hit. You can also follow it when it jumps up out of the water and land a few blows on him, but you'll need to quickly get to the bottom of the pool after. You could also just keep double-jumping, but I found crouching at the bottom to be easier. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Zephyr #ZE Recommended Level: 28 Seal Level: 4 Soul: [B] Allows you to stop time for a short period *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Fans of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure will laugh at this battle. So, basically, he can stop time, throw daggers, and yells "Toki yo tomare." At the beginning of the battle, he'll either start walking towards you or stop time immediately. If he stops time and resumes it quickly, get ready to backdash and jump. He'll run at you, then swipe with his set of daggers. He might also jump in an arc over you and leave a few daggers in the air. When time continues, they'll fall. They're not too hard to avoid, especially since you have a few seconds to decide where to run before they fall. He can also do a triangle kick off the ceiling or wall. When he hits the ceiling, he'll throw a dagger. Either whack it or slide away from it. It's a simple battle, but a few screw-ups and you could end up dying. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Do the same as Soma. Any character works, and Alucard comes in handy when Zephyr decides to dash at you. Use his telport slash to gain a few seconds of invincibility, and maybe hit him in the process. You may want to time this a bit carefully, though, since there's a chance he'll be right on you when you teleport back. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Bat Company #BC Recommended Level: 29-30 Seal Level: 4 Soul: [G] Allows you to turn into a bat *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- You might have some trouble with this at first, but when you get its pattern down, the fight will ease up a bit. The bat (or swarm of bats, rather) has three forms: a bat, a hand, and some kind of face. The bat form will follow you around in short intervals. Attack it when it's not moving, and jump over it with the Flying Armor soul. The hand creeps towards you slowly. Attack it while backdashing, and when you're almost pinned to the wall, jump over it. If it grabs you, it'll deal a few hits to you. The face floats up and down while shooting energy circles at you. Slash them away while moving closer to the face, then start attacking it. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Your best bet is to use both Julius and Alucard. You can keep some distance from the bats while still being able to dodge it's moves. Throw a few boomerangs or axes at it while hitting it with your whip. When it changes to the hand, use Alucard's Change Bat skill or super jump to get over it. Julius' triple jump (jump, jump, L) also works, although it's safer to use Alucard. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Dario (Second Battle) #DA2 Recommended Level: 30+ Seal Level: N/A - Door is level 4 Soul: N/A *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- The same as the first fight. He only has one new move. He will summon up two dragons that move in a DNA-strand-like manner. Dodging them is simple: stand where they aren't touching. He'll also teleport around a bit more this time. Jumping behind Dario will make him do the 3 fire pillars move. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Same as above and the first Dario battle. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Aguni #AG Recommended Level: 30+ Seal Level: 4 Soul: [B] Throws a flame that works like Holy Water *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- In case you didn't know, you'll need to have beaten Paranoia to fight this boss and get the Bad/Best endings. Use the Paranoia soul to enter the mirror in Dario's second battle room to encounter Agni. Agni has a very repetitive pattern. The first move he will most likely do is one of the easiest to dodge. He'll fly up in the air - that's your cue to run in either direction - and come back down where you are. It'll send a wave of fire outwards. Jump over it, but make sure you aren't standing too close to the monster or his hand will hit you when he stretches out. After this, he can do one of many things. The first is to stay where he is and use Holy Water-like flames. Use the Medusa Head soul to hover next to his hand and keep attacking it. Make sure to drop down as soon as he stops spitting fire. Another of his attacks are hand smashes. It's somewhat hard to predict when he's going to use it, but he'll float over you for a split second before crushing you. Slide back and forth to avoid this. His last move isn't really a move at all. He'll slowly go over to one wall, then quickly fly to the other, and back again. If you're standing or jumping, this'll hurt you. Duck to avoid it. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- The same as Soma's. Use Julius and throw a lot of axes and boomerang crosses. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Death #DE Recommended Level: 35+ Seal Level: 5 Soul: [G] Random sickles appear and float around *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- His first form is easy. Jump up and attack him. Every once in a while, he'll start spinning his scythe and it'll burst into a cornucopia of sickles. They disappear upon being hit, so just slash at them. He can also float down from the air and appear near you. He'll swipe twice with his scythe: once vertically and once horizontally. Backdash away from the first attack and duck under the next. His third special is fairly easy to dodge. He'll summon three copies of himself, and they will all be floating in the air next to eachother. A beam will be fired down from each clone. Stand in between any of them to avoid being hit. Keep attacking Death and he'll eventually transform. His second form is a bit tougher, but you should still be able to get through it with little trouble. His main attack returns from Aria of Sorrow: he'll summon random sickles and throw his scythe. It'll spin around the perimeter of the room and return to his hand. Jump while using the Flying Armor to avoid being hit. Make sure to destroy the sickles in mid-air, too, or else they'll bump you right back down and you'll find yourself being killed quickly by his weapon. His second attack is similar to his first form's double-swipe. He'll appear behind you and hold out his scythe, then pull it towards him. If you're crouching BEFORE he appears, a second attempt to hit you will be made. You can also jump over this. His last move is his most devastating, and if one hit connects, you're going to take a lot of damage. When he holds his hands out to his sides, get ready to run back and forth. A head will come out and try to bite you from the side. Run to the left to avoid it. Another head will chomp at you from the left. Run right. Continue the process until there aren't any skulls attacking you. If you're on Hard mode, there will be about twice as many. Alternatively, you can jump up and use the Medusa Head soul or Bat Company and stay floating near the ceiling. The skulls' jaws won't be able to reach you, and it saves a bit of thumb energy. Charbel also adds that you can use Proselpina's soul to suck up all the scythes without worrying about getting hit by any. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Use Yoko. Her club has an overhead motion, which is perfect for hitting Death without the worry of taking crash damage. Shoot Holy Lightning at him every once in a while. Avoid his attacks the same way you would as Soma. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Abaddon #AB Recommended Level: 38+ Seal Level: 5 Soul: [B] Summons locusts that swarm the screen *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- Abadon can be a real pain if you're even a second late on dodging his attacks. All of them consist of him making conducting motions with his baton and sending locusts after you. He has 4 motions: straight forward, a sideways "U", a "U", and a (very hard to dodge) waterfall-like motion. You can avoid taking damage by them if you have the Final Guard soul, although it's not completely necessary on any but his last motion. On the first, you can simply attack with an axe weapon. The attack is slow enough to hit all of the locusts coming at you on the ground. Agni soul MIGHT help, but I personally have not tried it myself. His sideways U is one of his less threatening motions, although if you get hit once, you'll continue to be hit by other locusts. Slide into the corner opposite of the bugs. You can also use the Bat Company soul or Medusa Head soulto float in between them, but it's safer to stay in the corner. Firing off a few Flame Demon souls will also kill the locusts. For the U-shaped motion, use the Hippogryph or Bat Company souls to stay on the ceiling in the middle of the room. You'll barely avoid them. His waterfall motion is the one that'll annoy you the most. The only ways I have found to avoid taking damage from it is the Final Guard and Buer (5/5) souls. You can also regain a bit of the health lost by using Proselpina's soul. Make sure to not run into Abadon himself, too, as he hops around the room in between conductions. Raph Stryker also adds that Gergoth can be used against all of his motions (except for the waterfall), and that Spin Devil is also very useful given you aren't stading where the locusts can hit you from below. This even works on his waterfall! However, Abaddon can still run right into you while you're using it, so let go of the Guardian button as soon as the locusts are gone. The Treant soul, Rune Ring, and Chaos Ring all aid you in recovering your MP so you have some left for his other attacks or your weapon specials. Another (rather obvious) strategy I missed was to simply hug the wall the locusts come from on the waterfall motion. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- Straight Forward: Brandish (hold attack) Julius' whip and keep it held. The locusts die as soon as they touch the Vampire Killer. Sideways U: See Soma's method. You can also try to brandish the whip and move the control pad around, although you'll probably get hit. U: Use Alucard's Change Bat or Super Jump in the same fashion as Soma. Waterfall: Use Alucard's teleport slash just as they're about to hit you. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Menace #ME Recommended Level: 40+ Seal Level: N/A Soul: N/A *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- The first part of the battle is easy. Clau Solais is the best weapon against him, doing about 150 damage with Golem (9/9) and some strength-boosting items equipped. When the battle starts, Menas won't do anything for a few seconds. Proceed to attack that ugly face protruding from his chest (if you can't find the chest, I don't blame you). If you see spikes pointing out from his stomache, move to the right corner. If you see them pointing out from the bottom, move to the middle of the screen. If his mouth opens, hide in the corner again. It'll spit poison gas out, and it does some heavy damage. If you find yourself unable to run away from the poison, simple use Proselpina's soul to vaccuum it up. Keep attacking the heart and it will eventually stand. The second form isn't too big of a deal either. The most annoying part about it is the small red and black things Menas is constantly spitting out. You can take them down with two hits, but if they hit you, they can knock you off the platforms or push you into Menas, allowing him to juggle you back and forth with crash damage. He has two weak points: his knee and his face, both of which you have to destroy. Begin to do so. The Black Panther soul helps a bit here. You can use it while jumping up to attack his knee to avoid falling on his foot and taking damage, and also push the flying blobs away. When the knee is destroyed, use the Hippogryph soul to jump onto the platforms above. If you don't have the Hippogryph soul, there's a few low platforms to the left that you can climb up on. While close to his face, he can do one of two attacks. Both of them are punches. His first one uses his background arm to attack upwards. Step back a few platforms or use the Final Guard soul to avoid it. The foreground punch only hits the bottom row of platforms, so if you're not standing on them, you probably won't get hit. However, if you're too close, his arm will still make contact. Continue to cut up his face until he dies. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- N/A __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Paranoia (optional boss) #PA Recommended Level: 35 Seal Level: 4 Soul: [B] Lets you enter mirrors *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- If you want to fight Agni and get the bad/best endings, you must defeat this boss first. He's found in the upper-left part of the castle (The Demon Reception Hall), behind an Axe Armor, Killer Clown, and Ukoback wall. His mini-me version is the first one you'll fight. He's not too hard. When he's out of the mirror, attack him, but make sure to not get too close. He'll enter the mirror after taking a bit of damage. The four mirrors at the corners of the room will flash. If one of the mirrors is elevated slightly off the ground, slide under that one. Use the Medusa Head or Bat Company souls to avoid his lasers. There's no guarantee you'll avoid them, but this is the best way to do so. His second form is the same, but with slight changes. Instead of shooting one mirror beam, he'll shoot two. He also floats around the room and attempts to fall right on you. Do the same as the previous fight. -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- The same as Soma's strategy. The fight's a bit harder as the trio, so you may want to be around level 38 before fighting him. __________________________________________________________ *************************************************** Soma #SO Recommended Level: 40+ Seal Level: N/A Soul: N/A *************************************************** -Soma Strategy----------------------------------- N/A -Julius Strategy--------------------------------- During the first part of the fight, you'll want to be using Yoko. Her backdash makes it easy to avoid Soma's attack, and her life leech is useful. Start by getting close enough to make Soma use his G-Axe Armor soul on you. Backdash, avoid his Gyaibon, and then run back up to him and continue to attack. Holy Lightning helps here. Continue this same pattern, and make sure to dodge first before attacking if you hear the Gyaibon. If you get hit, you'll probably be able to recover your health. Your clubs should be leeching about 7 health per hit by now. His second form is a bit more complicated. He'll transform into the same monster Dracula did in the Symphony of the Night prologue, which resembles the final boss from Castlevania 1. Start off by switching to Julius. Wait for him to jump, then quickly run up to him and slide under. The Larvae he sends out in mid-air should miss you by a few pixels, and you shouldn't have slid far enough to let the Harpy hit you with its razors. Keep throwing Holy Water and Axes, they're very effective against him. If he brings his arms in, back up as far as you can away from him. Use Alucard and either super jump up to the ceiling or use his teleport slash to avoid his locusts. When you get his pattern down, he isn't too hard, like most bosses. __________________________________________________________ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 3.
