You need to change the daemon into a butterfly and fly into the gap in the ground when down there change into the rat and dig just keep on goin till you get to the end then change back into the butterfly hope that helps
If you move to far from lyra use L button to switch to her and move her forward so you don't kill them
Lyra doesn't die because Pan has gone too far. At the beginning of the chapter, they remind you of the flare tubes she was given. It's cold in the tundra, so you light a flare and stand her next to it, while Pan in the ferret form (after using butterfly/ moth to get into the crack in the ice) digs through the snow underneath.
