When he presents the riddle to you, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. The riddle is a trick riddle. Just tell him you're ready, and then leave the DS alone while the timer runs out.

You click on the start button and do nothing until the time is up.

This was a great help, I could have never thought of this. It's weeks that I am stuck on this one puzzle.
