I accidently found the answer to this dang question finally!

Start at the top left corner, go to the bottom line segment of that squre
Cut horizontally two spaces ( you should have two squares above the line you just cut)

Then cut straight down one box

The top box will have 5 squares horizontally and one square hanging down (the L piece.

The bottom box has a 2x2 box and the original shape that they cut in the clue.

I do not understand how this works but it does.
