I have the wi fi connector and the required internet access yet when I go into Union room no one is there. Why?

You do not enter the Union Room upstairs in the Pokemon center, you go downstairs and connect to the WFC by talking to one of the two ladies near the door. Then after you save and enter it will ask if you would like to connect. There should be a blue screen. In order to connect and battle, trade, or whatever with people, you must have their friend codes, and they must have yours.
No one from your code list is in the union room now. So you might want to inform them. Make sure you're downstairs but.
You need to get peoples friend codes, without them, you cannot battle anyone, with them, you can battle anybody who's code you have. Just ask people for them and challenge them to a battle, they'll know.
