This is some thing that is killing me. Will I ever be able to turn myself from a Turtwig into a powerful Torterra? Same with my partner. And dose Darkrai have anything to do with it?

Yes, you will. And yes, (he, she, it) does. You have to beat him, get Manaphy on your team, which takes an EXCRUTIATINGLY long time, and go to the Marine Resort. Then you can evolve.
You can evolve after defeating Darkrai, and recuiting both Dialga, Palkia, and Manaphy. That answers both questions.
