There is no way that you're supposed to be able to. That doesn't stop anyone from exploiting the password system, however. Copy down the password that allows others to rescue you. Give up on waiting, save, and go back to the main menu. Enter the password in the Friend Rescue menu. Once you've completed the mission, copy down the new password. Go into the game with the team you want, and let foes attack you until you faint. Enter the password from your mission, and you will resume from where you fainted in the first place.
