When you get a Pokemon to start off with is there a fire pokemon?

Yes, it's a Chimchar. If you don't choose him, until you beat the Elite Four, your only choice for a Fire type is Rapidash, unless a friend transfer's an egg.

There is a fire Pokemon and it's name is Chimchar, the fire monkey. I would recommend Chimchar. I got him and he is now a very strong level 83 Infernerape.

In D/P, the fire starter is Chimchar. The only other fire Pokemon besides Chimchar and his evolutions in the Sinnoh Dex are Ponyta and Rapidash, which is kind of sad.

Okay, to ease your suffering, yes there is a starter Pokemon that is fire-type. It is the Fire Chimp Pokemon Chimchar. Just so you know, it evolves into Monferno at level 14, and Monferno evolves into Infernape at level 36 or 37, depending on how you raise it. But I can't reccomend any Pokemon to start with. (ONE MORE THING!!! THESE POKEMON CAN'T BE FOUND ELSEWHERE!!!!!!)
