What is the point of a burn orb or toxic orb if they hurt you?

I can note a few reasons why to use these items.
Flame Orb- Personally I've never used this, but I know it helps Pokemon with the 'Guts' Ability to increase attack.
Toxic Orb- This Orb I use for my Breloom that has 'Poison Heal' ability, thus healing 1/8th hp each turn. Bad thing it does is it still damages my Breloom outside of battle (Stupid, right?)
Here's the last reason I can think of. Using the move 'Fling' you can throw your orb thus causing a burn or critically poisoned status.

Both Orbs are usually given to Pokemon with the Guts trait to hold, such as Swellow. It will increase their Attack power by 1/3. Additionally, if the Pokemon in question uses the move Facade, it will also be 1/3 more powerful, so a Pokemon with a status effect and the Guts trait who uses the move Facade will deal 66 percent more damage than they usually would. It's not so useful in-game, but in competitive battling, it's an excellent tactic.
You can also give them to Pokemon with the 'Burn Heal' and 'Poison Heal' abilities, so they can restore 1/8 of their HP in battle each turn - twice as much as Leftovers restores! However, the Toxic Orb comes with a downside - it still damages your Pokemon as you walk, so once again, these items are better left to competitive battling use.
Like numerous items that create similar effects, they are useful items to use with the move Fling.
Otherwise, you can just sell them for a bit of cash.
