Thanks for your help guys. I have already obtained the national pokedex and I already migratedfrom leafgreen twice. Luckily I got Pokemon emerald in america so does anybody know if you can trade from ruby/sapphire to emerald when you are playing them on the nintendo ds?

Yes, you can trade between any GBA Pokemon game, such as Ruby/Sapphire to Emerald. However, you cannot trade between any GBA Pokemon game and Diamond/Pearl; you're forced to migrate Pokemon through Pal Park for that.

Moreover, I don't think that the DS can connect with a GBA. So if you have Ruby/Sapphire inserted in your DS and Emerald in your GBA, then they won't connect, I think.

You're left to do that between two GBAs.

mitsu answered:

No. You cannot trade between Emerald/Sapphire/Ruby with any DS (even if you have two DS consoles and a game in each, it doesn't work) neither will a DS link with a Gameboy of any kind (technically, the DS isn't even a gameboy, nintendo were explicit about this upon release)

BUT... Yep, you can migrate all you like from any of these games, and Leaf/Fire, too. But only if the gameboy game cart is in the slot provided for them in the DS console.

If you would really like to trade Pokemon between these games, get your hands on another gameboy advance (a basic one like the origional ones that came out before the SP and Micro will be relatively cheap nowadays, if you buy it secondhand.) bear in mind that gameboy micro's can't trade either (i think... Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong)

cheating-is-good answered:

I don't think you can because the two games aren't meant to trade between two DS. You gotta use GBA and a link cable. But you can trade between Firered/emerald, or Leafgreen/ruby.
