Question for Hotel Dusk: Room 215

I can not open room 218 to get in to mellissa I have tried starting the game over and over again just in case I have missed anything but I am still stuck can't get the wire out to open door please help as I am thinking of putting it in the bin

You have to go and find Lois. I think hes outside the resturant where you enter. Your'll tell him Melissa's locked in, and he'll tell you to go to the electrical room. This is opposite his room in the left hallway-i think. Go to the box and push both switchs up. Then go back to room 218 and use the wire to open the door. It will break, but you break the door or summit

when i go to the switch board. it says that theres a cover on it, how do i move it? or is that the wrong thing. please help i am so confused.
just a ds fan answered:

Picking this lock is just like picking your suitcase lock, only a bit trickier because there are more tumblers. Push them all down quickly and the lock will open.
