how does item modifire work?

I just want to ask how does the item modifire work I don't understand it because I try to add it and I don't know how excatly work.. So please help me understand it and tell me how it work for a code. Thank you.

You have to go and find edward. He is at the troia castle. The imfirmary wing. He will give you some sort of plant. It will make it so that you can use your weapons against the creature.

You give the ability to someone and when you use it you choose an item from you inventory with an elemental afffinity (Bomb fragment, antartic wind, zeuses wrath, etc...) and your weapon will have that elemental affinity.
