How do you get the plane to barrel roll

My son can't seem to get the barrel roll to work even pressing the LL button

You should be able to press LL or RR on the DS. But if this does not work talk to the nearest game stop worker and they might be able to see what is wrong with the DS, or game.

This ? Is on several help sites No one seems to have an answer. It is very frustrating for a small child. Is it a defective part of the programming.
