He should current be in the garage area of the cule bender house/manor thing.

Cross with the horse, then go back and cross with either of the other two. This time when going back, take the horse back with you to the first side, and then take whichever of the other two that you left before. Last is to take the horse back over again.
Basically the horse can be by itself but you can't leave it on the same side with the flame or the lady alone. The horse has to be by itself or with both other coins at once. So you basically just have to make sure the horse doesn't freak out and reset the puzzle. Lol

You have to go speak to Abernathy for the second time before trying to open the door in Nero's room. In my experience, it doesn't work if you try to do the symbol puzzle on the wall first.
After you talk to Abernathy again and come back to the clue bender place you can ho to Nero's room and do the puzzle. To "crack the code" I'm pretty sure you just have to try random combinatins of symbol parts until it opens.
