You don't have to hold on very long to get a powerful expecto patronum, just until the light on the end of your wand gets bigger. It's only a couple of seconds just hold down your stylus and after the light gets bigger let go and you should see a doe come out of the end of you wand and defeat a dementor. If there is more than one dementor then you will have to complete the spell more than once. One patronus will defeat one dementor.
