The best way to defeat a Ghost Pokemon is with a Psychic-Type Pokemon. Kadabra and Alakazam do great against them, especially Haunter and Gengar.

Hol up, Psychic-type Pokemon are actually weak to Ghost-type Pokemon. The reason Psychic can stand up to the Gastly familly is bc the Gastly family is also Poison-type. Your best bet against Ghost-types in general is Dark-type, or another Ghost-type.
