I am really worried about the game ending. What if I don't get all the crystal shards and don't get the opportunity to fight 02? Will I be able to try again if I don't succeed?

Yes you can go back to each level to get the crystal shards even if you fight the last boss. If you do fight the last boss before getting all the shards, you just get a unfinished ending. If you get all the shards, you get the full ending.
