Cheats, Tips and Strategy

In Mordhau you create a mercenary and fight in brutal hand-to-hand combat that is loosly based on historical techniques such as feints, redirection, and alternative use of weapons. Features in Mordhau include castle sieges, mounted combat, a 64-player Team Deathmatch which has a series of objectives to fight over and a Battle Royale mode that inevitably comes down to who can get a horse first.

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include earning gold and experience and regenerating health.

  • Complete the Tutorial
  • You will be given the option to do a beginners tutorial at the start of the game. Although playing through this tutorial is not mandatory it is recommended that you take the time to play it as it enables you to learn the basics of combat and movement around the map. The tutorial will take you about 15 minutes to complete and you will be rewarded 2500 gold which you can then spend purchasing equipment for your character.

  • Ready Made Characters
  • Although you are able to create your warrior at the start of the game it is advised if you are new to the game that you use an already-made character. Selecting already made warriors gives you the opportunity to test different roles and the types of weapons those characters use allowing you to determine which weapons and perks you will want to buy for your own warrior when you eventually create one.

  • Best Beginner Character
  • If you are new to Mordhau it is advised that you first become familiar with the game by choosing one of the 9 already-made characters. The best of these characters is the Raider who is equipped with a two-handed axe that enables him to deal high damage and medium armour that gives him both decent protection and mobility. The Raider also comes with four throwing axes that allows him multiple attacks from a distance.

  • Attacks Deal Damage to your Allies
  • On the battlefield it is very important to remember that your attacks can also deal damage to your allies which means you need to be careful when using your weapons. Teams are divided into two colours (red and blue), if during a battle you are unsure whether your opponent is an enemy or ally you can quickly determine which by aiming on them with your crosshair. Doing so will enable you to see their nickname and information.

  • Use Morph Attacks
  • You will find that you will win most confrontations if you are proficient at performing the various different morph attacks. These attacks are particularly effective for baiting out an early parry, leaving your opponent vulnerable. The simplest of these morph attacks is an overhead slash into a stab

  • Regenerate Health
  • When your character has been injured in combat their health bar will deplete depending on how bad the injury and a red glow will appear on the screen. There are four ways in Mordhau that you can regenerate the lost health.

  • Medic Bag
  • The Medic Bag is an item that you can buy for 300 gold and 2 points. It occupies one equipment slot and to use it you simply have to throw it on the ground and hold the key indicated on the screen. After a short period of time your health will be fully replenished. The Medic Bag can also be used by your allies.

  • Bandage
  • A Bandage is an item that can be bought for 300 gold and 1 point and works similar to the Medic Bag. It cannot however be shared with your allies.

  • Bloodlust Perk
  • The Bloodlust perk is an ability that costs 5 points that will fully replenish your health after you kill a single enemy.

  • Automatic Recovery
  • Whenever you are not engaged in combat automatic regeneration of health will occur when you walk, crouch or stand still after a few seconds. It is possible to increase the speed of this process by purchasing the Tenacious perk for 1 point.

  • Damage Multipliers
  • There are different damage multipliers for where your attacks land on your enemy. Landing an attack on your opponents head will multiply the damage of your swing while landing one on an appendage, such as an arm or leg will hit at decreased damage. The armour that you or your opponent wears in these regions will mitigate the amount of damage dealt to them.

  • Using Horses
  • Horses are powerful vehicles that can be found on the battlefield. They have some useful purposes such as trampling players (the amount of damage they deal will depend on the speed of the horse on impact), couching (using a lance or polearm to skewer players along your path), and using them to travel to a critical objective or location quickly.

  • Earning Gold and Experience
  • Once you have created your own warrior in Mordhau you will want to equip him with the best weapons and armour possbile. To do this you will need to earn gold and experience which is achieved by playing matches. Regardless whether you win or lose you will recieve gold and experience when you finish the match, obviously you will earn more if you win. You can earn a one-time reward of 2500 gold by completing the initial tutorial that is offered at the beginning of the game.

  • Buying Gold
  • Currently Mordhau does not offer a micropayments system so the only way you can get gold is by playing in matches. There is no way that you can speed up this gold gathering process.

  • Single Player Mode
  • Although Mordhau is intended for online battles with other players you can play offline with bots in Local Game mode. In this mode you will be able to determine before the game starts how bots you want to start the gameplay.

  • Finding a Server
  • The 'Matchmaking' function which looks for a server is currently not working. To find a match you must go to the 'Server Browser' tab, initially when you go there you will not see any servers, they will appear after a period of time which can be as long as 15 minutes so you will need to be patient. You may want to consider checking the 'No password' filter so the list does not include the password-protected servers. If logging on to a server fails try selecting another game from the list.
