Ok this game is pretty good, nothing greatly special about it.It's like Pokemon, but a little more addicting and last a lot longer.About 2 years longer,to be exact. If you want something to last a long time without it being boring(and you do want that),crazy monsters, and a reason to your parents, partner or roommate not to throw out your old cds.Monster Rancher takes cds to generate monsters at the Shrine.
The games graphics are good, but not great. It has the graphics of the ps1 installments of Final Fantasy, which is not all that great,to say.For some reason, however, the monsters look really good for a 1997 game. The only problem with the graphics are the arenas. They just look horrible.
Soundtrack is almost perfect.Only problem is that it gets really annoying after about 2 or 3 hours. The music changes when you go into town,go into a battle,or when the seasons change. This soundtrack is really good, but it just isn't good to listen for awhile.Just have music players handy and you shouldn't have a problem.
Story, perfect.Mechanics, pure genius.Menu navigation, just short of great. They put the Monster stats in the data screen, which gets kinda confusing at times. The monsters' age really affect them. They're age differs if they're valuable or not.Older monsters are more valuable, while younger are not.You can also combine frozen monsters to get a new one(please be aware that if you combine, the new monsters' rank goes back down to E).
This game will last you 1-3 years.Be prepared to play this game ALL DAY LONG.That's how much Monster Rancher will last you.Don't expect to put this game down for more than a day and not get paranoid to play it again.Just do me a favor and just play this game, and I guarantee to will love it.
Like I said before, this game is just short of being a 10/10.The only problems are some of the mechanics, soundtrack and the look. But these are easily tolerated. If you ever see this game at a video game store,BUY IT.You will not regret it.It's about $7-$10.Or you could check it out at videogamecentral.com
