Metroid Dread Cheats and Tips

Switch
Last Updated: by Dennis

Metroid Dread is a 2D atmospheric science-fiction horror action-adventure game in the Metroid series. Metroid Dread sees bounty hunter Samus Aran flying to a remote alien planet named ZDR after evidence emerges that the deadly X parasite, which she thought had been made extinct, continues to survive. Before her mission, the Galactic Federation had sent seven EMMI robots to ZDR in order to investigate, but Samus quickly finds that they are now hostile, having been hijacked and reprogrammed. Metroid Dread is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch. Take a look at our tips to get help in the game.

Metroid Dread, Tips Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game.

Don't Worry About Collectibles

In Metroid Dread there are various collectibles you can gather as you explore ZDR, these will include things such as Missile Tanks, Energy Tanks, and Energy Parts. You will stumble across lots of these items at the start and quickly realize that only a few of them are actually reachable. You will need to constantly backtrack to gather these upgrades and bits and pieces, and you won't be able to fully collect all of them until the end of the playthrough when Seamus is more powered up.

Use the Map

Don't worry about having to leave collectibles behind as you progress through the game. Metroid Dreads map remembers everything by highlighting their position on the map, so you should have no difficulty finding them when you backtrack to grab them later. The map also shows you all the door types, charge points, save rooms, and obstacles in areas you have explored and allows you to zoom in and see exactly what kind of barriers are blocking your access. This enables you to return later when you have acquired the ability, needed to bypass it. Learn how to read the map early - yellow squares for safe rooms, purple for transports, light blue is underwater, dark red is extreme heat, and dark blue is extreme cold.

Shoot and Blow Up Everything

Eventually you will get the ability to scan environments, which will allow you to easily find secret routes. Until then you need to shoot and bomb every wall, floor, and ceiling you come across as you pass through areas in order to uncover them. As you do this you will also discover collectibles you can gather. If you struggle to progress it may be necessary to backtrack and blow things up in order to find your way forward.

Seek Out ADAM Terminals

Littered throughout the world are Network Stations which have a pressure pad in the center of the floor which Samus can stand on to interface with ADAM, your ship's AI. Network Stations are indicated on the map by yellow squares and should be accessed whenever possible to both save your progress and to get relevant information on your current situation. This includes key objectives, lore, and an update on the status of your power suit and abilities.

Return to Flashing Areas of the Map

In order to progress in Metroid Dread, you will need to locate upgrades to your abilities throughout the world. This will allow you to backtrack and grab the collectibles that were hidden behind destructible blocks you couldn't smash and enter previously inaccessible areas. The game will sometimes point you in the right direction and offer a few hints. You can also open the map up and look for any areas that flash white, as this indicates an area you have cleared contains a missed secret. Keep in mind that you may still need to acquire the ability to reach it.

Make Use Of Save Rooms and Recharge Stations

Every area in Metroid Dread will have save rooms and various colored stations that give you full restocks of everything, these include ammo and health. Make sure you use your map to discover their locations in your area, so you can take advantage of them and also save the progress of your game.

Find The Map Room

In each of the areas of Metroid Dread, there is a map room where Samus is able to download huge chunks of the surrounding world. Once downloaded, these regions will appear as a featureless colored area on your map. It is important that you prioritize doing this as it will show you where you should, or could, be headed next.

Seek Out Teleporters

There are 9 distinct regions in Metroid Dread, and you will be able to move between each of them by locating Elevators and Shuttles. These can be found on the map as purple squares and are typically located near Network Stations or Save Stations. Another way in which you can travel around ZDR quickly is by using the color-coded Teleportals. These are not easy to find, but if you do manage to discover the location of all 6 of them, you will have access to a permanent shortcut that will cut out some hassle of backtracking.
