Magikarp training is probably the best way to level up your Magikarp quickly. There are a number of training options which you can unlock as you collect enough coins in your journey through the game.

Each training option can also be upgraded many times. The more you upgrade the training task the more jumping points (JP) you can expect to gain from each training session. Likewise the more expensive training tasks that you unlock usually mean they will offer more JP on each use.

You are limited in your training to three goes, then you need to wait half an hour before one of your training slots becomes available. You can skip this process by using diamonds to purchase Training Soda, you can buy a set of three of these sodas for 25 diamonds. Diamonds are purchasing for real money in the shop, or you can collect them in-game.

You are also limited for your training with regard to the maximum that you can level up your Magikarp. On reaching your maximum level you will then be forced to play League battles, which you can do until you lose. Your Magikarp then retires and you fish out a new one.

However it is not like starting totally again as your trainer level will no doubt be higher now and you will be able to fish out Magikarp with a higher max level each time.

My recommendation is to train up your Magikarp to it's maximum level before you attempt to complete a league. I'm not saying wait until it is Maxed out before taking on any league, but just be cautious, you don't want to lose your Magikarp before it has reached it's max potentional, so, if you just scrape through a battle, go back to training some more and level up your Magikarp a lot before re-trying.

Check out the Piplup in your pond, if you see one and tap him then you can get given a training point, not all the time though as it is also time controlled.
