Madden NFL 21 Beginners Tips

Choose the Chiefs, Ravens, 49rs, or Buccaneers

If you are new to Madden NFL and not familiar with the teams you can't go far wrong selecting one of the following:

- Kansas City Chiefs

- San Francisco 49rs

- Baltimore Ravens

- Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Each one of the teams listed above has an advantage that other teams will have difficulty trying to overcome. Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas Chiefs quarterback and current MVP of the NFL has speed and mobility in the pocket making him difficult to contain, he also has elite weapons to throw to downfield.

The San Francisco 49rs have an elite defense which is tough to run against and is good enough to shut down the passing attack of most teams. The Baltimore Ravens have Lamar Jackson, a young talented quarterback who can single handedly destroy teams either by passing or running. And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers now have the greatest quarterback to ever play the game in Tom Brady under center and the Gronk amongst his wideout options.

Use Superstar and X-Factor Abilities in Clutch Situations

In Madden NFL 21 there are over 50 new Superstar and X-Factor abilites. If you learn what factors need to happen to trigger them you can take advantage of them in clutch situations to make big plays that could turn the tide of a game or even win it. Superstar and X-Factor abilities are built to reflect authentic skills and characteristics these athletes display in real life NFL games so if you are a fan of the NFL anyway you will be familiar with what players are capable of doing in certain situations during a game.

Check the Madden Ratings

Each week during the NFL season Madden Ratings are adjusted to reflect the performance of NFL players. Keeping an eye on these ratings will make you aware of which players are currently in form on your team and those that are not on the opposing team and use that information to give you a slight advantage that might be enough to earn a win.

Audible on Offense

If when you reach the line of scrimmage you realise the defense has your play covered and it will not work you can change your offensive play by calling an audible. Once both players are done selecting their offense and defense the game gives you the option to check your play by pressing R2 on your controller.

If you have a few open lanes to hit, you will see green in this menu otherwise you need to press X to open up the audible window and change the play. This window will show you a list of preset plays you can use from different offensive playbooks. There is a time limit for switching plays so you must do it as quickly as you can.

Sliding

Avoid having your quarterback being tackled by defenders as there is a chance they will get injured if they get tackled hard enough. If your quarterback has no defender near him he can use the sliding ability to end the play. Not only will sliding help avoid your quarterback from being tackled it will also allow you to gain some more ground. To perform the slide, keep holding the acceleration trigger (R2) and hit the Square button on your controller.

Dodge Defenders

A good way to avoid defenders intent on tackling you is to perform the 'hurdle' and 'jurgle'. Although these moves are easy to learn they must be performed strategically to be effective, this is basically making sure there is enough space between you and the defender to perform the move.

To perform the 'hurdle' itself which allows you to jump over a defender you simply have to press Triangle on your controller while controlling a player with the ball during offense. The 'jurdle' is exactly the same except you move the left analog stick right or left and press the 'hurdle' (Triangle) button on your controller. The 'jurdle' is a mix of the juke and hurdle.

Tackling

In Madden NFL 21 there are four different types of tackles you can perform. These are listed below:

- Aggressive Tackle:

Press X when you�??re in range of the ballcarrier to perform an Aggressive Tackle.

- Strafe Assist Tackle:

Hold LT to strafe and then press A to perform a Strafe Assist Tackle.

- Breakdown Tackle:

Press A when you�??re in range of the ballcarrier to perform a Breakdown Tackle.

- Hit Stick/Cut Stick Tackle:

When you�??re in range of the ballcarrier, flick the Right Analog Stick upward to perform a Hit Stick tackle, or downward to perform a Cut Stick tackle.

Use the Stiff Arm

If you are the ball carrier on offense an effective way to fight of a defender intent on tackling you is to stiff arm them. The best time to use the stiff arm is when you are one-on-one with the defender beside you. How effective a stiff arm is will depend on your player's strength, a strong player can push a defender to the ground and out of the play while a weaker player will just push them off balance. To stiff arm in Madden NFL 21 you need to press the X button on your controller.

Spin and Duke

If your running back stays behind their blockers on the running route and you know when to make them spin and duke they will be difficult to take down by the defense. Be patient and wait for a hole to develop and then use the bumper on your controller to accelerate through it for yardage.

To make your running back spin while carrying the ball in Madden NFL 20 you press the Circle button on your controller. To make your running back perform a duke move which is a side to side fake out move you simply press side-to-side using the right stick on your controller. You can combine the spin and duke to for some unique rushing tricks when trying to elude the defense.
