Live A Live is a strategy game that features seven different stories with different protagonists, time periods, and gameplay styles. In The Wild West, a wanderer with a bounty on his head fights for his life. In the Twilight of Edo Japan, a shinobi undertakes a secret mission. Experience these tales in any order you choose — the adventure is yours to control. There are two more unlockable scenarios linking the narratives together through the recurring antagonist Odio. Gameplay is split between exploration with story-specific twists, and turn-based combat played out on a grid.

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include why you should follow the mini-map and why you should always save.

Follow the Mini-Map

In Live A Live you are given a mini-map to follow the different quests. Make sure before you move to the main objective of a quest you explore areas thoroughly as there may be an important item hidden in a chest you can find or useful dialogue you can get by talking to an NPC. The mini-map is marked with diamonds (or flags) in three different colors. The orange diamonds indicate where the next story beat is, the gray diamonds let you know what areas you have not yet visited while the blue diamonds let you know you have already been there.

Always Save

In Live A Live you will be able to save the game any time and any place. There are also twenty save slots which you can use which enables you to bookmark your favorite moments in the game. Make sure you always take advantage of this mechanic and save before going into an orange objective marker as fights can begin at any moment.

Do the Wild West Story First

If you are new to the game it is recommended that you tackle the Wild West scenario first as it has a fast storyline and will give you a feeling of what to expect from the game in the other stories. In the Wild West story itself you need to make sure you prepare traps before the battle by going back and forth between the bar and the town. Craft the legendary piece of armor in Prehistory called the Wildheart Dress by combining a pelt and a leather strap which will make Beru almost impossible to kill.
