Introduction

This game is a great addition to a great series of games. Battle your way through a mysterious castle and try to recover Sora's memories of the past, before they are overwritten and lost completely. Find new enemies, new friends, and a new way of battling with cards in this fun-filled action game.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are amazing. Even though they're limited to the GameBoy Advance's small and pixelated screen, everything from the battle scenes to the rooms to the cutscenes look fabulous. Attacks and special moves also have awesome-looking effects!

Sound

The music for this game in the field is decent, if a little annoying after you've been through 10 rooms of the same floor, all with the same song. But it reflects the mood of the "world" you are in very well, and goes along with the story. The battle music is awesome. And the sounds for attacks, jumping, hitting stuff, etc. All sound pretty good.

Gameplay

The format of the game is pretty simple. You reach a new floor, explore until you find the first special key. Then unlock that room and view the first part of the story for that floor. Explore some more, find a second special key, unlock that door and view the next story segment. Then finally you find the last special key, face the boss and then move on to the next floor, where it repeats all over again. This format is broken up once you reach the final few floors.

However, each of the rooms you must go through in order to explore a floor is infested with different enemies. And even though it looks like only one at a time, once you enter it's battle scene it is joined by many, many more. Fight with cards that represent attacks. Make sure your card's value is higher than your opponent's or it will be broken, leaving you vulnerable to damage. Combine cards for powerful combo moves, but be careful as that eliminates the first card in your deck for the entire bsttle.

The most interesting part of the game is the storyline that goes on between floors. Here, Sora faces the mysterious "organization," meeting fearsome new foes and trying to regain his memories that were lost upon entering Castle Oblivion. Each floor finds Sora in a story of his past, but nobody there remembers him... Complete the game to figure it all out!

Lastability

While this game is fun the first time around, it doesn't have much replay potential. Most of the game is spent exploring room after room, fighting foe after foe, and the exciting boss battles only occur once per floor. This can get very boring after a while. I recommend playing for a while, then putting it down and picking it up again later, so that it doesn't wear out. After you beat Sora's story, there's also a special second story... This allows the game to last a little longer than it otherwise would.

Overall

While the story and gameplay are both very fun, the game gets redundant very quickly as you fight battle after battle in room after room in floor after floor. Only the story segments, boss battles, and final few floors were really exciting for me. I recommend this game though, because it's a lot of fun to play for a few days, then pick up again later after you've forgotten about it, and it's a great addition to the Kingdom Hearts storyline.
