After each fight you will be given a score, below are the three factors that affect that score.

Time:

Each kill will be rated 'Good', 'Amazing', or 'Perfect'. You will score more points the quicker you kill your opponent.

Flawless:

You will earn an automatic 100 points if you can kill your opponent without taking a single hit.

Health Bonus:

You will receive extra points depending on how much health you have remaining after a Boss has been defeated.

When you have obtained better weapons replay earlier levels to earn up to three relics per level. The number of relics you are rewarded depends on your score, the higher your score the more relics you will get.

Don't waste your essence, save it for the shop where you will be able to purchase stronger weapons that have the Butality and Critical abilities. These weapons will also have better upgrade paths.

Resist the temptation of upgrading your starting weapons because as you progress through the game you will be rewarded free weapons after completing certain levels and these are usually good enough to get you through the next one or two levels.

There will be instances when the power strike opportunity will appear when enemies perform charged attacks so be prepared to execute it if the chance arises.

To prevent power strike opportunities from appearing at random times always execute downward swings when you have the enemy in a vulnerable state.

Whenever three blue downward pointing arrows appear it is to indicate that you can perform a power strike. To execute the power strike use a downward strike, if you strike in any other direction it will cause you to miss that chance.

When you score with successive counters you will weaken the enemy and leave them in a vulnerable state. Make sure when battling you watch your enemies arm movements so you are able to judge which direction they will be swinging so you are able to swipe in that direction and deflect the attack. If you manage to successfully deflect the attack quickly counter it by attacking in the same direction the enemy just attacked.

Unless you are being forced to counter always attack the enemies first. Although the enemy may not be vulnerable you will still reduce their health and armour giving you a chance at large damage when you can get a counter in. Doing this will also earn you points faster.
