Make sure you regularly tap the 'Events' option on the right side of the screen to see if there are any ongoing events available. These are worthwhile participating in as they will enable you to earn rewards such as resources, recruit tokens, and ultra recruit tokens. To find out what rewards you can expect to earn from an event you simply have to tap on any event and check the 'How to earn points' section. In all the events you basically have to earn more points than other players for better rewards.

In Star Trek Fleet Command you are given free chests which you can open every 10 minutes, 4 hours, and 24 hours respectively. Free chests are accessed through the 'Gift' menu, and it is important that you claim them as soon as they become available in order to get the resource or upgrade component they contain free of charge. There is also the possibility the free chests will contain various buffs that will reduce the time to make research and construction which will enable you to increase your combat power quicker.

You cannot choose where you begin Star Trek Fleet Command, you are placed around a randomly designated planet with other players. You can though relocate your base to another location if you are not happy with your current location. This will be something you will want to do if the location you have been given does not have many resources around your planet, or you are continually being attacked by enemies. In order to move your base to another location you need to find a planet and click on it. Each planet has 16 station slots and providing there is an empty slot you will be able to move there. The process required a relocation token, you get your first one for free but subsequent ones need to be purchased.

The asteroids that you see on the system map contain a variety of resources that can be mined so always consider mining as an alternative if you find you are not getting enough resources from your base buildings. The mining method will allow you to collect any resources you need but doing so comes at a risk, during mining your ship becomes vulnerable to enemy attack, so it is essential before you begin that you make sure there are no hostiles in the vicinity.
