There are two activities with your boyfriend: dates and going to bungalow club (which is like a party). To date press the date button on the boyfriend menu. This increases his happiness so he keeps doing his bonus (coins vs energy). To take him to a social event go to Bungalow club in new York where you mingle with others to improve his manliness so he can work with you in New York.
