How do you set the settings so that your child cannot buy items/berries, whatever?

You have to turn in-app purchases off. To do that:
Settings > General > Restrictions > Allowed Content > In-App Purchases > Slide it so it reads "OFF"
Select Settings, then General, then Restrictions, enter the pass code you set for restrictions, then turn In-App purchases to off and enable Restrictions and you're set... On iPhones, iPads, etc.
