You have to take the big "u" shaped piece and bring it down when the shorter piece and one of the pointy pieces are on the left side. Make sure the shorter piece is on top when you do this. Then when you bring the "u" shaped piece down you slide the smaller piece across the top. You should be able to figure it from there.

No, that doesn't help. You described all the things I had already done, and stopped explaining where I was stuck...
