Defence building upgrade
While a building is being upgraded, e.g. Machine gun, is it useless if an attack occurs?

Yes. A structure a defensive structure would be rendered useless while being upgraded. You could use it as a "shock absorber" though while it's upgrading.

Yes. A defensive structure like Machine Guns, Cannons, Sniper Tower, Flame thrower and the like would be rendered "useless" while being upgraded.
