Do the different Hats, capes & ect have different effects ?

What do the different items do ?

Some things cost 500 bananas &
Somethings cost 5,000 bananas ????

Well I just bought a cape for 5,000 and the difference is none so I guess excluding the powerups everything is just a cosmetic change.
