Strong Team

Try to get the strongest team possible as early as you can by pouring anything you don't want or need into your preferred troops.

Evolve

It is more beneficial to max out and evolve one unit at a time and evolve them than attempt to level everyone up all at once.

Energy

Spend a bit more energy early on so you can earn more cash and get troops easier to bolster your forces for the later levels.

Skills

When they are legitimately useful for the situation don't hold back using your skills as they can be very useful when you are about to get stomped or fighting a boss.
