Research helps you expand your army and add additional skills and strengths through evolution, it also enables you to enhance whatever battle cards you are carrying (this will strengthen your techniques overall). Research can only be done a certain number of times before you need to pay real money for an energy refill. Research also helps expand the number of coins and embers you collect (starts at a minimum amount at the beginning).
