Drive on the inside of the track whenever possible as this is the shortest route. Making tight turns and staying on the inside of the track can shave off distance and overall time. If you have enough of a lead and there is a gem on the outside of the track then take it otherwise stick to the inside track.

To enable your character's special ability during a race you need to wait until the lightning bolt icon that is located on the right side of the screen has filled up before you tap it.

You have a limited amount of power ups so it is important that you use them at the right time so you get the most out of them. The best time to use the power ups is when you are in a wide open space so there is less chance of crashing into something or when you see a stream of coins in the air. Also keep an eye out for cues on power ups like bubbles that elevate you.

Participate in the daily event to win either coins or gems.

To unlock characters you can either buy telepod figures which you can then place on the device's camera to beam the corresponding hero or villain into your game or you can beat characters in Special Champion Chase events.

Characters will eventually run out of energy and go to sleep but you can continue playing by either selecting a different character or by spending 10 gems and recharging the current one.

If you sign into your Facebook account you will receive double rewards.

When you are upgrading your kart focus spending your coins on acceleration and top speed first as these are what can give you the edge in harder challenges. It will also allow you to level up and advance faster as opposed to upgrading evenly which more often then not will cause you to lose challenges to faster opponents.

Whenever your bird runs out of energy you will need to wait for 20 minutes before you can use it again. If you put your device in Airplane mode and then change the time ahead at least an hour your bird will be ready to go immediately you return back to the game.

You will have an opportunity to pull back on your character and launch them onto the track just before the race starts. This has to be done when the timer reaches the number '1' on the countdown just before the announcer shouts 'Go!'. Pulling back on your character too early will cause them to spin out of control and get a bad start.

It is not worth wasting the 10 gems that are needed to skip challenges unless you absolutely can't beat a specific challenge. You are better off persevering or putting the game down and coming back to it later. Gems are difficult to come by so use them sparingly and only when necessary.
