Hello, I'm Elyr, and welcome to my review on Halo: Custom Edition. Halo is a very popular game because of it's fast paced action, and lastability. When people get good enough on the normal version of Halo, they download the Halo Custom Edition version, with many features that will blow you away, literally.
I will start with this game's graphics. Now just to let you know, this isn't an absolute sure rating (because someone might make crappy graphics), because Halo Custom Edition allows custom map content, which means people can make their own maps and do whatever they want to it. Well, the graphics are good because they almost always look good, and also, as an added bonus, you get to see many other kinds of graphics, made by other people just like you. Excited yet? I sure hope so, but read on. There's more to be covered.
Next, the sound. Like I said before, this can't be an absolutely sure rating because someone might attempt to make sound for their own map and then it turns out like crap. So there's not much to be covered here because it is practically the same thing before like I said with the graphics.... Eh, you thought that was a waste of time? It probably was, but read on, I promise this won't be the same as before ![]()
The gameplay is excellent! This game requires some strategy and a lot of skill. Or maybe not so much strategy and skill if your just going to go to your enemie's base and completely wipe them out with rocket launchers (that shoot out tracking Scorpion shots?!), or maybe shotguns (that rockets for each pellet that comes out per shot?!). Well, certain maps need more skill and strategy then others, but some just need brute force. The action is fast paced, and usually never boring, especially with custom content to last you a lifetime.
The lastability is quite unlike any other game. Every day people are making new map modifying tools, allow you to make your custom content even more custom! New maps, graphics, bitmaps, and all that stuff are also coming out the bunghole too. The only real problem with all this is to create YOUR OWN, original, maps, you need Gmax (free, but .jms exporting is slow) or 3DsMax (expensive as hell). But if you don't want to get any of that stuff you can just modify other people's maps with tools in the HEK kit up for download on many sites. The tools are Guerilla (weapon editor, you can change projectiles and stuff in this, plus a ton more), Sapien (you can load your map in this and it will show it, and then you can place objects, scenery, and all that good stuff around your map accordingly), and Tool (used for compiling maps so you can play them in Halo Custom Edition).
I have played Halo for 3 years (or somewhere around there) and I have never played a game quite like this one, truly. Its fast paced action really grabs me, and leaves me wanting more. I suggest you buy Halo: Combat Evolved at your nearest local store, get to know the gameplay some, and then download Halo Custom Edition off of whatever website you find it on (Google Halo Custom Edition, it's free) and give it a shot, you won't regret it, I promise. And if I break this promise you can come over to my house and slap my upside my head.
I didn't quite cover everything in this review (there's too much) so go play Halo and figure out all that other cool stuff I might have missed.
