Griftland Tips for Griftlands

Griftland Tips

Choose the Gold Gift

At the very beginning of Griftlands you will have a choice to make when you go to the bar of your old friend Fssh. Aside from the accomodation she will also offer you 3 random starter prizes. Make sure the one you select is the gold which is in the form of Shills, the currency of the game. If gold is not one of the choices take the card upgrade.

Negotiating is Better than Combat

When you encounter opponents that are stronger than you it is in your best interests to try and negotiate with them first. If you lose the negotiations you will only lose 'resolve' points which may prevent you from completing the current task. Whereas if you decide to engage in combat and lose it will be the end of the game.

Read the Card Descriptions Carefully

There are a lot of cards in Griftlands and each of them give you different benefits when you play them at certain times during your turn. Make sure you pay attention to your cards by reading the descriptions carefully. You can easily see if a card on the right side will work if you play it by hovering over it, the information you get from doing this includes how much damage it will inflict and what benefits you may recieve.

Do Not Buy Single-Use Cards

As well as the standard cards there are also cards you can play a limited number of time, this type of card is normally given to you as a gift or you obtain them as a task reward. Even if you have good relations with a merchant and have a 25% reduction it is not worth buying this type of card from them, you will find it cheaper to bribe a character to help you solve the problem.

How to Get Resolve

There are certain missions where you will not be able to solve things with negotiations because a 'resolve' is required before they can begin. In these cases you must demonstrate your combat skills. If you win the battle you will be rewarded with cards, items, gold and have several points of 'resolve' restored. You can also regenerate 'resolve' at Fssh's bar where you can buy a beverage that will renew 10 points for the price of 22 gold. It can also be given as a mission reward.

How to Restore Health and Resolve

Regardless of how well you play duels and negotiations it is inevitable you will lose your initial statistics. You can still continue the game after losing all of your 'resolve' but you will not have the ability to conduct negotiations. Health points (HP) are also important as they are required for further gameplay. In Griftlands the only way you can fully regenerate your HP points and 'resolve' stat is to go to sleep. In order to do this you must visit the Fssh bar and spend several gold pieces. This can only be done after completing the main tasks, when you do so nighttime will begin and when you go to the Fssh bar you will be presented with an option that allows you to sleep over night.

Death

Your character will die if you allow their HP to drop to zero. There are no checkpoints in Griftlands but there is an option to pass down an implant or an ally to the next new character to start with. There are also death-related trophies you can win so make sure you keep an eye out for those consolation prizes.
