Play the role of one of four fully-customizable Ghostbusters and face off against one ghost on five maps ranging from an Alcatraz-inspired prison to a cozy lodge. Chase and trap ghosts in hotels, museums, prisons, and more, and capture them before they can fully haunt the areas.

Or alternately, you can play as the Ghost who must hide, sneak, surprise, scare, and slime Ghostbusters and civilians until everything has gone completely spooky. You will also have to use trickery, deception, and Ectoplasm to gain the upper hand and drive the Ghostbusters out.

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include why ghosts should possess small objects and how to access the Training Manual if you are unsure of something.

• Avoid Being Trapped in Compact Areas (Ghost)

  If you are playing as a ghost it is essential that you are constantly on the move and don't linger around smaller rooms with low ceilings and lots of objects to block your way as these types of areas will make it easy for the Ghostbusters to catch you.

  Although you don't have the ability to phase through walls you are able to fly, and you should look to take advantage of the mobility this offers you when exploring the maps. The best strategy is to keep to rooms that have high ceilings as these enable you to get some distance from your pursuers and always have an escape route where you don't get cornered.

• Protect Rifts (Ghost)

  As a ghost it is crucial that you protect ghostly Rifts that can be found scattered around the map. In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Rifts are openings that lead to the Ghost World and enable you to travel from one location to another.

  Rifts appear as swirling masses of blue ectoplasm in random locations, and you can discover their whereabouts by using your Ectovision to track their location once the match starts.

  You will always begin a game with three Rifts, and providing one remains active, you will have a chance to come back. When a match starts find the closest one and move it somewhere high, like an object hanging from a ceiling which will enable you to retrieve it more safely if you need to move it again.

• Possess Small Objects (Ghost)

• Save Your Ultimate Attack for Groups (Ghost)

  More often than not the Ghostbusters will split up in a match to cover more ground and once one spots you they will alert the rest of the team who will quickly converge on your location.

  When this happens you should lead the Ghostbusters to a compact area which forces them to be close together and then unleash your Ultimate which can then potentially not only down multiple Busters but sabotage each of their Proton Packs.

• Always Upgrade your Gear (Ghostbusters)

  In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed there are four main gear types (Proton Pack, Particle Thrower, PKE Meter and a Ghost Trap) that a Buster will have and each can be leveled up and improved by gaining XP through succeeding in missions.

  You can upgrade your gear by visiting Eddie at the firehouse where there will be a bench upstairs at the back. There is a second bench you can use in the alleyway between the firehouse and Rays store. It is important that you keep your gear updated with the latest upgrades when they become available as this is the key to victory.

• Calm Down Civilians (Ghostbusters)

  Make sure you pay attention to the members of the public while you are hunting a ghost. Each of them has a fear meter that the ghosts are trying to fill and once full will result in that person fleeing. If you lose too many civilians it will result in you failing the job.

  Whenever you encounter a civilian that is near to panicking go to them and hold the action to start the QTE wheel. If you then hit both of the prompts you will calm that person down and prevent them from running away.

• Destroy Rifts (Ghostbusters)

  Rifts in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed are openings that lead to the Ghost World and allow the ghosts you are trying to capture the ability to travel from one location to another. As a Buster you need to find these and destroy them.

  To destroy a Rift you first need to find it using your P.K.E. Meter to scan areas. The P.K.E. Meter will beep when it detects a Rift. Once you locate the rift, shoot at it with your proton beam until it is destroyed.

• Pick Up the Collectibles (Ghostbusters)

  Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed has collectibles that you can grab, they come in the form of fungus, mold, spores and newspaper clippings. They can be found strewn throughout the game, and it is beneficial that you pick them up whenever you see them up as they can provide a small amount of XP bonus.

  The newspaper clippings are not found as frequently but once found you can take them to Ray's Bookstore where to the right of the counter is a pin board that will enable you to read the clippings which will provide you some lore and history of the world.

• Use the Training Manual (Ghostbusters)

  If you are unsure of any aspect of Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed you can always consult the training manual.

  To do so you need to take the stairs at the back of the firehouse to the top floor, from there turn to the left so that the prompt for the training manual appears on the screen. All you need to do then is head over to the table and press 'Action' to open the training manual menu.
