U just have to keep attacking until it reaches a certain point were ingram withdraws.
Best way to destroy the R-gun rivale or any boss with a barrier is equip an energy drain and/or energy taker, as well as a repair and supply modules (preferably to seperate mechs). Before going all-out drain his EN gauge using energy drain and energy taker as well as having him waste his axion buster shot. Once the gauge is empty (lower than 10) feel free to go full force, his energy restores at the beginning of his turn he will restore some EN so fire the EN taker/drain until it's empty again and repeat.
You only get two shots with EN taker/drain weapons so keep your suppliers right next to them if you can. Also, The Valsion custom comes with an EN drain "hard-wired" to it so if you have it in your hangar it may be worth taking.
