Vintage League

This is perhaps one of the more special of the League Events largely as a result of the Cars that it uses and features, but it took racing this part to raise an issue that left us rather melancholy -- that being the realization that for the vast majority of the racers playing FM5 these cars that the older of us know so well because we owned and drove some of them are really little more than museum specimens to the rest of you!

When I say "The rest of you" what I really mean is most of you...

And it is rather heartbreaking to realize that so few of you will have known the joy of highway driving in a Holden Manaro from the 70s, or a Cutlass, or a Challenger -- and don't even get me started with the epic Cars like my father's 1968-and-a-half AC Bristol Cobra that he special ordered from the factory in England when I was barely a year old, having it shipped first to Indiana where it was reworked by Carol Shelby before it was loaded into a container and shipped to Sydney...

I grew up riding shotgun in that car when my da ran it in road rally -- mostly poker runs and points safari events all over Oz. A video game cannot communicate the feelings of hot sun and wind on heavy metal, or the ting-ting-ting of the cooling engine as you sit in the shade at the end of a rally, drinking a Coke and watching the other Cars roll in.

I guess what I am saying is that if you are ever offered the opportunity to drive -- or even be a passenger in -- any of these Cars, you should do it. Seriously mates.
