FIFA Street was a surprise. I never really enjoyed the proper FIFA games, having been a Pro Evo fan since the PS2's release, yet i found Street to be a compelling game. I have read some reviews that have panned it, as EA are just exploiting an exhausted franchise, but if the next FIFA Street game (there is one) is better than this, it will rank up there as one of the best games on PS2.
As always in EA games, the graphics really do push the limits of the PS2 to the very edge, and then some more. There is no pop-up present, and the animations are fluid, even though sometimes the response is a bit slow, but it's not a major problem, as the greasy, hands-on football is depicted very well. You've got your Henrys and your Ronaldinhos, and they look lifelike. So, all in all, a very impressive showing on the graphics front.
The EA TRAX on this game suit the theme well i.e. R N' B and Rap etc. but it isn't really my type of music, and so i didnt enjoy the soundtrack as much as, say, Madden's soundtrack, as it had more of a mixture of styles. The commentary is varied and very funny, with Harvey shouting things out such as 'Rinse Him!' and 'That Was Amaaaaazin'! The songs for meare a thumbs down, but it's livened up by Harvey's energetic commentary!
The gameplay is very fluid, with tricks galore available at literally the touch of a button i .e. pushing the R3 button upwards makes your player flick the ball over his head and his opponents, and then run round and there are more tricks, about 300 in total in the game. The 'Gamebreaker' feature, a feature in all of the franchise's 'Street' games, is used to great effect here, and you can score some great scissor kicks from the half way line in the top corner. Great!
This game can be quite repetitive, but it's lastability depends on many things, such as if you like football, if you like sport games, if you're a capable gamer etc. The main mode lasts a long time, if you want to build up your team to get stars such as Buffon and Cissé, yet it is worth it in the end, as there are many unlockables and the like, and the customisations are practically endless.
This game is a great song, and it is even better for the people that love football games or the EA franchise, especially the FIFA games, and overall it is a flash, fluid game of footy, and i love it, and it is recommended, strongly recommended, although maybe if you are not sure, try it out, maybe rent it, but for those who love tricks and flash goals accompanied by incredible graphics, then give it a spin!
