Fifa 06, the game that rivals Pro Evolution Soccer. This latest installment has nearly the same season mode, slightly improved gameplay and an update of the teams. This sounds like FIFA year after year, so is there any point in buying EA's annual game this year?
The graphics are good, official kits, official players and some players' likenesses. But there is a catch. FIFA 2005, in my point of view, was a much better game graphically than this. EA have gone for a better graphics engine, but it's failed slightly. The faces are the same, the kits (appart from the officialness) don't look as realistic as they should. When your in the game players tend to look 'fuzzy' now and then. In my opinion, PES5 beats this game graphically which makes a change.
PES 1 - FIFA 0
When you first load up the game, there is commentating from past games in football. An example would be Rooney, where he was named the youngest premiership player to score, after Owen. The commentating is official, with Andy Gray with his famous scottish accent. And to add more flavour, EA once again, have added some songs to match FIFA perfectly. Well done EA, it's PES 1 - FIFA 1
The gameplay is fun and frantic, but not as realistic as PES5. This could be a bad thing, or a very good thing. If you are looking for the most fun in a short space of time, get FIFA. However, if you like spending time on your formation, tweaking your players skills and want a game that will last you for months, PES is your game. No - one scores for this one. It's your opinion.
FIFA 06 is not the kind of game that will keep you going for months. If you don't mind the lastability, and want something to keep you busy over a week or so, buy FIFA 06. FIFA fans may enjoy it and like playing it for months, but if you are new to both of these games, you may want to consider what you want. PES is a game which you gradually get into, if it was one game then game over, FIFA would be the best game by far. It's this quality that seperates the two games.
Overall FIFA 06 is not the best installment so far, but it does add extras like the classic FIFA world cup '94 which retro heads may enjoy. In other words this is a great game and if you can't be bothered tweaking your formation so it's the best it can be, and just want a truck load of fun in a short (or for FIFA fans long) space of time get this game now. If you are a regular FIFA player, and you fet the annual game every year, you shouldn't change to PES5. Overall I will give this game 8/10 and it will no doubt, entertain you no matter how long you play on it for.
