Fallout 3 is the long awaited sequel to fallout 2. Although created by a different company than previous titles in the series it still holds true to the original story (more or less). Some people have called it Oblivion with guns and there are some similarities (probably due to be developed by the same people) however fallout 3 is a unique experience and definitely worth a go. It is the best post-nuclear game out there.
The graphics are stunning and give a very vivid picture of what Washington DC might look like in a post-apocalyptic America. The environments are beautiful from the caves to the mountain tops it has almost photo realistic visuals graphics throughout.
The voice acting is spot on throughout and the soundtrack really fits with the pace and suspense of the game. Like in Oblivion the music changes to a more fast paced tune when you are engaged in combat. It also has some of the best songs of yesteryear available to listen to through the radio on your pip-boy.
No other game offers an experience like Fallout 3. You can play it like a good old First Person Shooter or you can use V.A.T.S (Vault Assisted Targeting System) to slow down combat and make combat a bit more turn based and improve your aim and critical hit chance. There are a huge amount of weapons and a loads of enemies to use them on. Also the gameplay is non-linear so you can do more or less what you want when you want, however your actions will have consequences for example getting caught robbing someone can cause everyone in the vicinity to attack you.
There is hours upon hours of gameplay in Fallout 3. It may only take 2 or 3 hours to complete the main story line if you rush through it but if you really want the experience all that the game has to offer there are loads of side-quests to undertake, some of which can take hours to fully complete but the rewards are usually worth it. Also there are loads of areas in the game that are not linked to any of the quests and are simply waiting for you to explore and plunder them which can take hours in itself.
Overall Fallout 3 is fantastic and a definite must have for everyone. Let's face it who hasn't wondered what it would be like to travel across DC with a combat shotgun in a post apocalyptic America killing endless mutants and ghouls?? Just me then? Any way it is a great game and extremely enjoyable from start to finish/
