Elsinore Cheats and Tips

PC
Last Updated: by Dennis

Elsinore is a time-looping real time point-and-click adventure game set in the world of Shakespeare's Hamlet. In Elsinore you take the role of Ophelia who wakens from a terrible vision where in four days, everyone in Elsinore Castle will be dead. Ophelia must try to prevent the tragedy that lies before her from happening by making decisions as the story sets up a domino chain of events where each development thrusts the Danish royal castle further into despair and darkness until everyone is dead. Every four days time resets, and you gain another chance to change the fate of Elsinore Castle's inhabitants. Check out our Elsinore cheats and tips to find out how you can save the castle.

Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include...

Click Objects

Whenever you come across inanimate objects that are named you will be able to click on them. Make sure you click on all these objects at least once.

Don't Use the Reset Button

Resist the the temptation to press the 'Reset' button early on in the game when things are not going the way you had hoped and remember that every unique ending you get can provide new information.

Fast Forward Story

As Elsinore is a real time game there may be instances where you will need to wait a period of time for things to happen. Instead of leaving Ophelia waiting around or passing the time doing something else in the meantime which only derails what you were initially waiting for it is more beneficial to instead take advantage of the fast forward control to get the story to where you want to be.

Progressing Main Plotline

Make sure you have done the following if you are having difficulty progressing the main plotline:

- Ask everyone about the history of Elsinore, especially dead royalty and nobility.

- Your father is too stubbon to be persuaded.

- Your brother will help you follow your mother.

- You do not have to stop the war, only delay it.

Claudius Dying

There are several endings in Elsinore that require ensuring that King Hamlet's brother Claudius dies early in the timeline. There are multiple ways that you can make this happen.

Witnessing the Death of Ophelia's Father

You will be able to witness Hamlet killing Polonius, Ophelia's father and the chief counsellor of the king by obtaining the key to the Queen's chambers and hiding there before the play on Friday.

Missing Lute

To find out about the missing Lute you need to read the note on Polonius' desk.

Finding Fortinbras

In order to locate Fortinbras, the nephew of the King of Norway you have to befriend Lady Brit.

Finding the Poison

In order for the 'Innocence for Power' route to play out Ophelia must romance Claudius to find the poison that is in the vase in Claudius' chambers.

Stay in the Great Hall on Sunday

Make sure you are in the Great Hall by the end of Sunday if you have no other places to be. You will miss the actual ending for that timeline if you get caught in the conflict outside.

Unlock Secret Ending

There are 11 endings in total, including the default 'You died'. To get the secret ending you must complete two tasks. One is to convince the ghost to turn against Quince, and the other is to catch Hamlet on Thursday after he meets Quince but before midnight and give him the same information. Once these two tasks have been accomplished you just need to follow Hamlet's plan.

We hope these tips help you out in the game, for further help check out our FAQs for Elsinore

Our Latest Questions

How do you get Hamlet sent away on the ship? (for the Predictability for Adventure ending)
In order for Hamlet to be sent away on the ship, you need to follow the unaltered timeline. Do the play about the murder, Hamlet kills Polonius, Claudius and Hamlet are still alive Saturday morning. Claudius will send Hamlet, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern to England.

If you want to get on the ship yourself, you need to get Hamlet sent to England first. When he comes back he will tell you about the letter, and you can use that as hearsay in your next timeline. Talk to Claudius after the announcement of Polonius' death and before Hamlet departs and tell him the ship plan fails. He'll send you on the ship with Hamlet.
How do you complete the Hamlet and Brit betrothal (for Independence for Peace, without Laertes kil..
In order to get the Independence for Peace ending, the Hamlet/Brit betrothal cannot happen. You need to get Spoiler:
click to reveal
then make sure you don't romance Hamlet yourself.

I feel the best method to get this ending is as follows:

- Get Laertes to stay, then tell him some time that morning that Brit Spoiler:
click to reveal
You can watch him investigate, or not; either way it will get her out of the way.
- Then get Claudius killed, preferably on that first day, though I suppose it could happen on the second. The easiest and most satisfying way is if you know about the poison stash in his room.
- You can learn about the poison stash (if you haven't) either through the Innocence for Power route, OR just by being an observer: doing a full cycle of simply following Hamlet/Claudius around and watching the plot unfold as it would in the play without influencing anything. (Obviously this can't happen until after you've found a way to prevent Ophelia's death on Saturday.)
- Tell Gertrude after dinner of the first day, or really any time before dinner on the second, that Claudius has the poison stash. You could also tell Hamlet if you prefer. Whichever one you tell will take action.
- With Brit and Claudius taken care of, Hamlet will offer to rekindle your romance. If you say yes, it will lead to the Family for Legacy ending; what you want here is Independence for Peace, so you must say NO and do not romance him.
- Hamlet needs to receive advice from one or two (I believe at least two) sensible characters: I'd suggest Polonius, then Gertrude.
- You may wish to hang out in the dungeons to see what happens to it's occupant.
- Finally, hang out in the Great Hall on Sunday, and you will watch the end play out.
How do you uncover the spy arrested?
To capture the spy you need to be at the docks at 3am to watch the meetup.
How do you not die on Saturday?
You need to uncover the identity of the spy before then.
How do you find Fortinbras?
You need to befriend Lady Brit in order to find Fortinbras.
