In the near-future, society is starting to collapse, and the human population is at an all-time low. A deadly toxic presence has spread across the land, destroying and devouring everything in its path. Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons. Escape the tyrannical clutches of Sandfill's subterranean society and join Eastward's unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above.

Whenever you find yourself stuck on a puzzle in Eastword you need to search your surroundings closely because what you require will be nearby. For example, it may just be a bit of electrical wire you need to find which you then simply connect to activate a switch that opens a door. There will also be instances where you will need to drag objects so they protect you from bursts of harmful steam. Pay attention to visual cues at all times.

During the course of the game, you will encounter numerous bosses and they will each have weak points that you can exploit. You will be able to discover these weak points by watching their patterns and the environment. Knowing where to hit the enemy will enable you to inflect more damage and take them down faster.

Most of the enemies you encounter in Eastward are mobile so let them come to you. Once they are within range of your frying pan you need to make sure you repeatedly swing it so you batter them into submission. There is the possibility that they drop hearts that restore health lost due to damage you may have taken, or ingredients you can use for your recipes.

Make sure you collect the ingredients that enemies drop when you defeat them as you will be able to use them to produce food when you return to your house. Some dishes you can create will just refill hearts on your life meter, but others will offer a temporary extension to your usual supply or additional protection. Try mixing ingredients to see what the best combinations are. When you discover a new dish the game notes the recipe. Keep in mind the dishes you create will take up room in your backpack and will be generally more effective than the treats you buy at the store.

It is important that before you enter a dangerous area, such as dungeons or boss chambers within those dungeons you search for the refrigerator with a television resting on it that will be nearby. When you investigate the refrigerator you will receive a cryptic message and your progress will be saved and it will now act as a checkpoint. Always remember to save at the nearest refrigerator when you plan to stop playing for the day.
