How to be Awarded a Penalty
You are awarded the right to take a penalty kick during a match in EA Sports FC 24. Either the defense needs to commit a foul in the box, or a handball in the box. The only other way you can take a penalty is if a tournament match that requires a winner and a loser and not a draw ends tied after 90 minutes and a further 30-minute period of extra time has elapsed.
How to Take the Penalty
A new feature called the Composure Ring has been added to EA Sports FC 24. The objective is to shoot when the ring has contracted to its smallest. There is no reticle for aiming, you direct the trajectory of the ball using the left stick of your controller.
The shot itself must be timed with adequate amounts of power. If you can place the ball on one of the four corners of the net you will increase your chances of converting the penalty kick considerably as it gives the goalkeeper little to no chance of saving it as they can only go one way.
The shoot button is the same for penalties as it is for regular shots during a match:

- Circle on PlayStation
- A on Nintendo Switch
How to Choose a Penalty Taker
Once the referee has awarded your team a penalty during a match you will need to decide which player on your team will take it. If you hold R2 or RT on your controller you will be able to check the stats of all the players in your squad and select the player you feel is most likely to convert from the penalty spot. This should be the player who has the highest penalty rating.
The Goalkeeper
It is a lot more challenging to be the keeper who has to try and save the penalty shot. Not only do they have to guess right where the penalty taker is going to place the ball, but they also have to block powerful shots away. If the penalty is taken during the match after a foul and not during a penalty shootout, you have to be wary of the rebound and a potential second shot.
