Check the Link Skills on your characters before setting up your rotation. Characters with matching Links can activate those Links when they are next to each other, giving you useful boosts such as extra Ki, ATK or DEF. Try moving characters around to find pairs that work well together.
Don't leave your main characters with empty Hidden Potential nodes. Use Potential Orbs to unlock the nodes and improve their stats and abilities. If you get a duplicate of a character, you can use it to unlock one of the four locked paths. This can give the character extra abilities such as Additional Attack, Critical Hit or Dodge.
Raising a character's Super Attack Level makes their Super Attack stronger. This is especially useful for characters you use regularly in difficult events. A higher Super Attack Level can also be needed to unlock parts of the Hidden Potential routes, so it's worth raising it before spending lots of resources on the character.
The two characters next to each other on a rotation will come back together when that rotation returns. Use this to keep characters that work well together on the same rotation. Characters with matching Links or Passives that help each other can become much stronger when you keep them together instead of constantly moving them around.

Colour Wheel
Each of the characters is associated to one of five fighting types (STR, AGL, TEQ, INT, and PHY) and each has an advantage over the other. Use the colour wheel that appears in the upper right-hand corner of each battle screen as a way of helping you remember the different types and the related hierarchy (orange beats purple, which beats green, which beats blue, which beats red, which beats orange).
Linked Attacks
Having some prior knowledge of Dragon Ball Z will come in useful because when characters that relate to each other on some level are placed beside each other during a fight they will be able to perform 'linked attacks'. Two examples of this is Tien and Chiaotzu who are best friends and training partners and Goku and Krillin who both have the 'Turtle School' skill from training under Master Roshi together.
Multiple Enemy Types
On most of the levels you will encounter multiple enemy types so a good strategy is to make sure you have a variety of different types of fighters available to choose from.
Colour Gaps
Use Dokkan Battle's friend making ability to fill in any colour gaps that are in your fighters' offenses.
Enemy Encounters
The red circles on each of the levels indicate enemy encounters and unless it is marked 'Stop' it is not a mandatory fight you must engage. The optional fights are worth engaging just to get the Experience and items from them.
