Donkey Kong Country Returns is a brand new, high fliyin', vine swingin', game. It is the fourth in a line of DK Country games(DK Country 1, 2, and 3 or DKC). Many have said this game was a mistake, others are full of joy that DK is finally back in a good, new game. In a surprising turn of events, Retro Studios decided to help Nintendo produce this game. Nintendo continues to suprise us with different game designs.
The graphics for DKCR are close to amazing. They are the kind of graphics Nintendo has shown us for years in DK games but they seemed to of gotten better. The grapics are reffered to as "lifelike" and "shouldn't have been called 2D." The one flaw I see with these are the graphics design is too close of a relation to the old graphics. Maybe if they added a little bit more of the 3D quality everyone expects from the 3DS, the graphics would be close to perfecto.
When it comes to video games, sound is a big contributer. It helps bring the game(s) to life! The music is just like the old music but much better. With DKC the music was good but didn't keep a good, steady beat. With the new uprgaded versions of the songs, DCKR fits well with the sound. What I like most about the new soundboard, is that brand new music that appeals to today's gaming world. The sounds and music can be slow and steady, and then pick up later on to fit the mood the same way.
DCKR gameplay is deserves a 9. The controls are very user friendly. Say I was doing very good in the game and I died. I wouldn't lose sight on what the goal was I was working on. The storyline also seems to have recovered from the rut it was in a while ago. For example, DCK also had a hourd of stolen banannas featured in it, but the game never acually told you why it was stolen unlike DCKR. Also in Donkey Conga, there was no storyline at all, you just played! DKCR has an almost unmatchable gameplay.
If you want a game with good lastability, DKCR might not be your best choice. It does have a good gameplay to back up it's lastability. But if you beat a level you are able to go back and get things, you would want infinite scenarios. The game features puzzle pieces that combine each world that are a good extra, but once you get them you can't get them for a second time. On the other hand the puzzle pieces are hard to get. I think it would be best if I compared this to Super Paper Mario's lastability. In Super Paper Mario there are endless riches, level ups, and very hard to find, extra pixles. Why couldn't those sort of extra adventures been incorperated?
Overall, Donkey Kong Country Returns is a very different game. It is user friendly and has a good storyline. And on top of that it has good sounds to help out with that. Also, great graphics come into play when Retro Studios is on the job. But the lastability is questionable. I think even though it has minor flaws, it will become a must have soon. Why else is it still playable in Gamestop?
