This review goes about a game made be the game designer Warren Spector, known from Deus Ex and System Shock namely: Disney Epic Mickey.
Disney Epic Mickey is a game located in the Wasteland, a world where the forgotten Disney
Characters lives, wich is ruled by Oswald, a rabbit that is the predecessor of Mickey Mouse.
The most famous mouse of the world: Mickey Mouse is the main character of this game.
Mickey foolishly enters Yen Sid's (the wizard of Fantasia and the game serie Kingdom Hearts )workshop through a magical mirror in his bedroom out of curiosity.
There he sees a model of Wasteland and a magical brush on Yen Sid's table and begins to play with
It.
Accidentally, Mickey creates the Shadow Blot, one of the villians of the game.
Mickey quickly tries to erase the Blot by throwing thinner (the green substance to erase things with) onto it, but destroys the model doing so.
He runs away after doing this.
By destroying the model, he also damaged the Wasteland and caused many bad things...
The graphics are very good for a wii game.
Everything looks darker then you would think for a Disney game, but some places are very colorful.
The characters are all funny and the enemies looks pretty scary.
Micky gots his old retro look back and I think it is very charming.
It also has some 2d sidescrolling levels, which are based on the old cartoons.
Those levels has a lesser graphic quality, but they are good enough.
The game also haves some 2d cutscenes which are very funny and are looking very good.
The graphics deserves a 10/10 for me.
The sound is very good and will give it the right atmosphere.
It will give you a the right mood on the happy and sad moments.
It realy fits a Disney game.
There is only one drawback: you need the whole time to the same place (the Mean Street) to buy items and getting a mission and the music on that place becomes repetitive.
The sound deserve a 9/10.
The gameplay is a really nice concept.
You use the green thinner to erase objects and the blue paint to bring them back.
Sadly, the game does not memorize what you do.
If you paint a sad village into a bright happy place or a bright village into a sad place and turn the game off you will see all your work was for nothing.
The camera was terrible and you will get stuck many times.
The only solution is turning your game off or reset.
This sounds very negative, but it is not that bad.
Most of the time the camera will be good enough and you do not need to paint everything.
You will need to jump into a cartoon if you go to another place.
Those cartoons are alway sidescrolling and are really fun.
The only problem is you need to go through those levels everytime you go to another place.
You will also have some choices in this game, an example is the first boss.
You can defeat him by using thinner, or use paint to befriend him.
This will affect the way the characters will treat you and the ending.
The gameplay gets an 8/10 from me.
The lastability of the game is very good.
If you play through it without collecting something will it take around 15 hours to beat it.
When you want to collect every item in the game it will take much longer.
You can collect movies, pins, pictures and beat many missions.
You can also unlock 2 short Disney movies to watch: one about Oswald and one about the
Mad Docter.
If you have beated the game and you want to collect your missing items then you can play again on that safe file and you will restart from the begining, but you will have all your items.
If you do this, it will be able to take over the 30 hours to beat the game for 100 procent.
I give the lastability a 9/10.
The game is very good, but it haves some mayor glitches.
The camera will freeze sometimes and some of the dialogue was absent.
(note: I have played a transelated version, so I do not know the dialogue problem is also in the English version)
It is fun to see the old characters so if you like Disney it will be a very good game.
I have spended many hours on the game and it was really fun.
There are not many good games on the wii, but this is one of the best ones.
Overall this is a very good game and it is worth to buy it!
It gets a 9/10 from me.
